Implant
Silicone or saline
Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, and their volume can be adjusted. Dr. Masschelein talks you through how each would suit your tissue.

The first step is a complimentary, friendly call with a patient care manager.

How Dr. Masschelein approaches breast augmentation
Dr. Masschelein looks for volume in proportion with your chest and shoulders, rather than the largest implant that fits. If your breast and nipple have dropped, a lift may do more for you than a bigger implant.
Before you settle on a size, Dr. Masschelein measures your chest, checks your tissue and shows you how different sizes compare.
Most daily activities are possible again in 1 to 2 weeks, and Dr. Masschelein gives you your own timeline for exercise and lifting.
Implants aren't necessarily lifetime devices, so you'll have check-ins over the years. If an implant sits well and causes no trouble, Dr. Masschelein doesn't usually recommend changing it.

Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, adds volume to the breasts with an implant.
Dr. Masschelein places a silicone or saline implant through a discreet incision, either over the chest muscle, beneath the breast tissue, or under the muscle.
Some people want more volume. Others want back the fullness they had before pregnancy or weight loss, or want the two sides to match more closely.
Talk it through with our team →Your choices
You make three decisions with Dr. Masschelein before surgery.
Implant
Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, and their volume can be adjusted. Dr. Masschelein talks you through how each would suit your tissue.
Placement
Over the chest muscle, beneath the breast tissue, or under the muscle. Dr. Masschelein recommends one based on your anatomy and how much tissue you have.
Size and profile
You and Dr. Masschelein choose the size using sample implants and measurements of your chest, aiming for balance with your frame. During surgery, he checks the fit with sizers before the final implant goes in.
Your own fat
Some patients also have fat transfer: a small amount of your own fat, taken by liposuction, is placed to refine the contour around the implant. Dr. Masschelein tells you at your consultation whether it would help.

Get the guideLift or volume
Two things decide it: where your breast and nipple sit today, and how much volume you want.
If the nipple still sits fairly high, an implant alone can add the volume. If the breast and nipple have dropped, a lift moves the nipple back to the centre of the breast, which a bigger implant can't do on its own. Many people who want both have the lift and the implant in the same surgery.
