How is Emsculpt NEO Performed?
How exactly your Emsculpt NEO treatment will be performed depends on the area you are having treated. We will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible for the procedure. Your medical aesthetician will then locate the ideal areas for treatment. The paddle-like Emsculpt NEO applicator(s) will be placed over the skin on the treatment area, and secured comfortably with a velcro band.
Once the treatment starts, the machine will then begin to work its HIFEM+ and RF magic on your body according to the settings that your treatment provider has customized for you based on your assessment. The machine is fully automated from this point, and all you will have to do is relax for the half-hour treatment until your medical aesthetician removes the applicator(s) and completes the treatment.
If you are receiving multiple Emsculpt NEO sessions as per your customized treatment plan, this process will then be repeated in a different area.
How Emsculpt NEO Works
You can think of Emsculpt NEO as a high-tech workout machine that safely uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic muscle stimulation (HIFEM+®) in conjunction with radiofrequency (RF) energy in a controlled manner to stimulate your muscles and heat layers of tissue, as if you were doing intense exercises for targeted areas of the body.
During an Emsculpt NEO treatment session, the device emits HIFEM+, which uses a powerful but harmless form of electromagnetic stimulation to contract the muscles in a targeted area. How exactly does HIFEM+ work? To answer that question, it’s important to understand the science behind muscle contractions. Muscles contract when electrical signals are sent from the brain to the muscle fibers. These signals cause the fibers to contract, which in turn causes the muscle to move.
Emsculpt NEO uses a similar principle to stimulate muscle contractions, but instead of relying on signals from the brain, it uses electromagnetic energy to directly stimulate the muscles. The HIFEM energy creates an electromagnetic field that penetrates the skin, passing electrical currents to the muscles in the targeted area. This energy causes the muscles to contract and release rapidly. These involuntary contractions are more intense than what can be achieved through voluntary muscle movements. Ultimately, this stimulates muscle growth and strengthens the targeted muscles.
At the same time, the Emsculpt NEO device also emits radiofrequency energy, which adds heat to the tissues in the area and boosts blood supply to the muscles for a more efficacious muscle toning treatment. The RF energy is also able to heat up the layers of fat cells in the area, causing them to physically break down. These fat cells get naturally metabolized by your body, and then flushed through your lymphatic system. This process results in reduced fat and increased muscle mass in the treated area.
What to Expect
During the treatment session, you will lie down in a private treatment room while the Emsculpt NEO device is placed on the targeted area of your body. You’ll feel the device emit high-intensity electromagnetic waves that cause involuntary muscle contractions, which can feel like an intense workout. You may also feel a warming sensation, similar to the feeling of a hot stone massage, as the device emits radiofrequency energy to heat up your fat cells.
There is no pre-preparation required for this procedure, but your medical aesthetician will have asked you to come to your treatment making sure you are well-hydrated. The more hydrated your skin and muscle tissues are, the less resistance they will have towards the radiofrequency energy being used with Emsculpt NEO. This allows the energy to travel more efficiently in order to selectively heat fat cells. Ultimately, this means a more effective but also a more comfortable treatment.
Each treatment session typically lasts a quick 30 minutes, and you will be able to resume your regular activities immediately after the session. Many patients describe the post-treatment sensation as feeling like they have just completed a great workout, but there is no pain or discomfort otherwise.
Results can vary depending on the individual and the targeted area of the body, but optimal results are typically seen about 3 months after completing your Emsculpt NEO treatment plan, which for most will consist of 4 sessions spaced 5-10 days apart.
On average, patients will find their Emsculpt NEO results lasting between 6 months to 1 year. You can come in for maintenance sessions anytime within the 6 months to 1 year, but adhering to a regular exercise routine and maintaining a healthy diet will help to prolong your results.
