CoolSculpting treats subcutaneous fat, which is the fat that sits below the skin and above muscle. To be able to treat this fat, we need to be able to pinch the fat – so it can fit inside the CoolSculpting suction applicators. CoolSculpting is a safe and effective non-surgical procedure used to reduce fat and contour specific areas of the body, using a technology called Cryolipolysis®. CoolSculpting targets fat cells, freezes and permanently eliminates them.

While diet and exercise can reduce the size of fat cells, they can’t reduce the number of them. With CoolSculpting®, the fat cells are cooled to the point that they die off, are broken down and dissolved by your body, then naturally expelled via your lymphatic system (through your sweat and urine).

All this occurs without any sensations or awareness that this is taking place in the body, so you can carry on with your normal life after your treatment and don’t need to make any changes to your lifestyle.

How exactly your CoolSculpting treatment will be performed depends on the area you are having treated. We will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure, and if possible we will have you in a reclined position. Your medical aesthetician will then locate the ideal areas for treatment and mark them. The paddle-like CoolSculpting applicator (or applicators if you are receiving dual-CoolSculpting) will then be applied to the area, to then suction onto the area.

The machine will then begin to cool down to below 0℃, this will feel uncomfortable during this time, but will go numb after 10-15 minutes and we can help with managing this discomfort if required.

Once the CoolSculpting treatment for that area has finished, your aesthetician will remove the applicator and massage the area for a few minutes—this is actually the most important part of the process, as it is helping to break up all of the frozen fat cells to optimize the results.

If you are receiving multiple CoolSculpting sessions as per your customized treatment plan, this process will then be repeated in a different area.

Immediately after the treatment, the area may seem a bit red or swollen, but it will be practically unoticeable that you had any treatment done at all. In the days that follow, you may experience a little bruising if you find that you do bruise easily (this is due to the suction of the machine).

The treatment area will feel quite numb for the days that follow, with almost a pins-and-needles sensation, but you won’t experience any pain.

The results timeline does vary while your body naturally breaks up the dead fat cells, and passes them through your lymphatic system. Most patients will see results anywhere from 4 weeks, and up to 12 weeks. The 12 week mark is when your medical aesthetician will book you in for your follow-up appointment, and to continue treatment if this is part of your treatment plan.
