ProFractional Laser Resurfacing Treatment Vancouver

Vancouver ProFractional Laser Resurfacing Treatments at 8 West Clinic

As a premium skin rejuvenation treatment at the forefront for concerns such as acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, or sun damage, the ProFractional™ laser treatment is a leading solution that 8 West Clinic is excited to be offering in Vancouver. This erbium:YAG laser resurfacing treatment stimulates the body’s wound healing and collagen production processes by safely ablating, or vaporizing, tiny micro channels in the skin. In tune with modern innovations in skin resurfacing technology, the ProFractional treatment device smartly treats over just fractions of the skin in order to retain stem cells and melanocytes. This ensures the quickest, most comfortable, and most efficient healing to result in plump, refreshed skin that is firmer, tighter, smoother, and brighter.

What are the Benefits of a ProFractional Laser Treatment?

One step shy from a more invasive full field laser resurfacing option (such as Contour TRL), ProFractional laser in comparison remains a very powerful solution while providing higher patient comfort, shorter healing times, and equally great depth tunability to freely control the extent of results tailored to our patients’ tolerances. With the ability to treat deeper into the dermis than many other laser resurfacing technologies, more optimal results can be achieved for more moderate concerns like scar removal and wrinkle smoothing in a smaller number of treatment sessions—without the compromise of an extensive downtime period.

The high customizability of the ProFractional laser treatment also provides great benefits for our Vancouver patients. When executed by a skilled medical aesthetician, a ProFractional treatment can be safely tuned and performed on a larger variety of skin types, including patients with darker skin. When tuned to target more specific concerns, ProFractional laser also becomes a great treatment to work into a combination therapy plan. At 8 West Clinic, for example, performing a full face HALO treatment combined with a ProFractional treatment that is carefully customized for spot treating the cheeks can be a highly effective pairing for improving acne scars with a nicely blended result.

The benefits of ProFractional laser resurfacing are wide-ranging. In summary, ProFractional:

  • Allows for deeper resurfacing than many run-of-the-mill laser treatments,
  • Can effectively treat more moderate concerns such as acne scars and deeper lines,
  • Provides a more comfortable, rapid recovery time compared to full field resurfacing,
  • Is highly customizable to patient anatomy, objectives, and tolerance for downtime,
  • Is highly customizable to treat many skin types, including darker skin,
  • Is highly customizable to target specific results that may be part of a combination therapy treatment plan.

What Should I Expect During My Vancouver ProFractional Laser Treatment?

ProFractional laser treatments at Vancouver’s 8 West Clinic are finely customized by highly trained and experienced medical aestheticians who work with skin all day, everyday under the direction of Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Buonassisi. When visiting the clinic for your ProFractional treatment, this is what you can expect.

ProFractional Results:

After your ProFractional treatment, your skin will continue to gradually repair itself over the next few weeks while collagen and elastin are rebuilt in the dermis and fresh, healthy tissue replace the ablated skin. For the best results, ProFractional treatments are typically performed in a series of 3 or more sessions, which are spaced out approximately 6 weeks in between. Upon completion of your treatments and your healing over about 6 more months, your skin will have a significantly improved appearance whether smoothing out acne scars and surgical scars, smoothing deeper wrinkles or age lines, correcting melasma, or fading brown spots.

Anaesthesia for ProFractional:

When it comes to laser resurfacing, the first thought that often comes to mind is, “Does it hurt?” As all ablative laser resurfacing procedures work to vaporize the skin, measures are required to help patients manage discomfort during treatment. You will be advised to arrive at the clinic at least 30 minutes before your treatment for your anaesthesia. Often, patients will only need a layer of prescription-strength topical numbing cream applied to the surface of the face. However, some may also require pain medication before treatment. Your medical aesthetician will assess your needs and tolerances in your consultation with you to help determine the most appropriate anaesthetic for you.

The ProFractional Procedure:

Once your skin has been numbed and you’ve been prepared in your treatment bed, your ProFractional procedure begins. Your medical aesthetician programs the ProFractional system according to what you discussed in your consultation with consideration of your concerns, desired outcomes, and tolerance for downtime. The device then gets pressed gently to the face in a series of strategic passes, allowing the laser to penetrate micro channels in  the skin. With pain properly controlled, your face won’t feel a thing throughout the treatment. Depending on what is being treated, the treatment length can take from 15-30 minutes to an hour.

ProFractional Treatment Recovery:

After treatment, your ProFractional procedure is already beginning to take action. Wound healing kicks in as a natural response to the controlled micro damage made in the skin, which will usually present as redness, swelling, and pinpoint oozing or crusting immediately after treatment—all normal to expect with ProFractional. Peeling and flaking will generally occur about a day after treatment. Your skin will go on to recover for approximately 3-4 days from treatment day, and you can usually return to your normal routine (including applying makeup and engaging in any strenuous exercise) 5-7 days after treatment. Your medical aesthetician will discuss post-treatment care with you, which will be important to follow at home to ensure the best recovery.

Common Combination Treatments with a Vancouver ProFractional Laser Treatment

The ProFractional laser treatment is popular with our Vancouver patients whether as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other treatments. Some examples of common combination therapies with ProFractional at 8 West Clinic include:

  • HALO + ProFractional – Halo will improve your skin’s overall tone and texture, significantly remove discolouration, and reduce pore size to increase your skin’s luminous glow.
  • MicroLaserPeel + ProFractional – The MicroLaserPeel is a more superficial depth peel that is perfect for patients who want a healthy glowing look to their skin with improved luminosity and smoothness.
  • BBL + ProFractional – BBL produces clearer-looking skin that’s firmer, and more even in tone and texture. It’s great for plumping the skin, eliminating redness, and reducing brown pigmented spots for an even, clear complexion.
  • ProFractional + TRL – The Contour TRL is a powerful full field resurfacing laser that removes wrinkles on the outside of the skin while stimulating the growth of collagen on the inside, improving the firmness, tightness and resilience of skin damaged by the effects of aging and sun exposure.
  • Surgical Facial Rejuvenation + ProFractional – ProFractional after a facial rejuvenation surgery such as a Facelift is a great treatment to consider with an aim to further fade healed surgical scars.

A number of complementing treatments are also popular as add-ons to ProFractional treatment sessions that are intended to enhance patient results, usually by boosting the healing and recovery process. Some examples of beneficial complementing add-ons include:

  • Sculptra + ProFractional – A Sculptra injectable treatment timed 2 weeks prior to your ProFractional treatment helps to boost results by intensifying the body’s natural collagen production process.
  • IV Therapy + ProFractional – An IV drip treatment formulated for healing and repair of the skin is a very easy add-on to have before your ProFractional treatment, which can be done while you wait for your topical numbing to take effect before treatment.
