Rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure requiring a great deal of training and experience. The decision to have surgery on the nose should be made with the utmost level of care and attention.

The average cost of rhinoplasty surgery in Vancouver is between $9,000 to $16,000, but it can range up to $25,000 due to many variables involved in this procedure, such as the surgeon’s experience, time in practice, and the details of the surgical plan.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

There are a variety of different techniques used to perform Rhinoplasty, each one focusing on altering the structure of your nose by modifying the underlying cartilage and bone.Open Rhinoplasty is performed by making a small incision across the columella – the area between your nostrils at the base of the nose. The skin is gently raised after the incision is made to expose the nasal bones & cartilage so that the necessary modifications can be made. The incision is then surgically closed with sutures to minimize scarring and blend with the natural creases of the nose. How Dr. Buonassisi performs the surgery and what modifications he makes is dependent on careful considerations including the individual’s desired goals, existing structure, type of skin and more. The best way to know with certainty which technique is best for you is to have an in-depth conversation with Dr. Buonassisi during your surgical consultation.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From Rhinoplasty?

Very common questions that people ask are “how long is the downtime for Rhinoplasty?" or “how long for swelling to go down?". Most patients will take 1-2 weeks off work or school, and are able to work or study from home in the early days of recovery. Your cast is removed 1 week after surgery, but be prepared to still see bruising and swelling. The exciting part, though, is that you will get the first glimpse of your new nose. While it varies from patient to patient, you can expect most bruising to dissipate in the second week. It is also important to keep in mind that it will take a year for everything to heal and set for you to see your final result. All of the above information and more (including an overview of what to expect day-by-day after surgery) are covered in your complimentary pre-consultation with a Patient Care Manager.

About Dr. Buonassisi

Entrusting a surgeon with a central feature of your face like your nose requires a great deal of understanding of their credentials, experience, and results of procedures they’ve performed in the past. As such, patients are encouraged to seek out experienced surgeons who have performed many cosmetic rhinoplasties over a long career. One of Canada’s top dual board-certified cosmetic facial surgeons, Dr. Thomas Buonassisi leads the team at 8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic and carries extensive experience, having performed thousands of cosmetic nasal surgeries for over 20 years.

Types of Rhinoplasty Procedures Offered at 8 West Clinic

  • Hump Reduction Rhinoplasty:Resizing the bump on the bridge of the nose is one of the most common reasons that people pursue Rhinoplasty. As the name suggests, this surgery works by reducing and resizing the dorsal hump of your nose, to soften and balance the nose.
  • Tip Refinement and Rotation Rhinoplasty:For patients  seeking to reduce the size of the nose, remove a hump, refine or rotate the tip of the nose. From tilting the tip up, to narrowing a larger tip; tip refinement is often combined with other Rhinoplasty procedures, such as hump reduction or correcting a crooked nose, for the most striking, natural-looking results.
  • Alar Base Reduction:Alar base reduction refers to reducing the width of the alar, or base, of the nose. It is often, but not always, combined with augmentation Rhinoplasty. A small incision is placed at the base of each nostril, and a wedge of tissue is excised so that the nose appears smaller and more narrow.
