Non Surgical Rhinoplasty Explained

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty Explained

Change the look of your nose without surgery? That's certainly an option that many would take in a heartbeat over a rhinoplasty surgery. With the use of filler techniques by a skilled injector such as a Registered Nurse working under a physician, an FDA-approved non surgical nose job is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that can alter the appearance of your nose—but would it work for the kind of results you want? In the above video, Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Buonassisi talks about how non surgical rhinoplasty with fillers differs from surgical rhinoplasty, and informs on how important it is to really think about your options.

Non Surgical vs Surgical Rhinoplasty

Non surgical and surgical rhinoplasty are two very different procedures, especially in terms of the results achievable. As opposed to a surgical nose job, a non surgical nose job with fillers:

  • is minimally invasive and involves injections instead of incisions
  • is quick without the weeks of post-op downtime
  • gives temporary results for approximately 12 months rather than permanent results
  • only camouflages (i.e. a hump), rather than truly altering the features of the nose
  • increases volume to soften the nose's shape instead of reducing any mass of the nose
  • effectively tackles the nose bridge, but does not tackle changes to the tip of the nose, which often turns out to be a major change needed to see best results.

As Dr. Buonassisi explains, non surgical rhinoplasty is a great option for those looking to soften their nose with small enhancements, particularly if they have a small nose or have only a small depression or bump in their nose and are not looking for something totally permanent. It is not, however, an alternative to true rhinoplasty surgery as it works by simply adding or "filling" volume in the nose to make it larger overall, and therefore cannot yield the best refined results, especially when changes to the tip are necessary—which is often the case for most patients considering rhinoplasty.

The Importance of Research for Non Surgical or Surgical Rhinoplasty

Lots of consideration is to be done when you're faced with the options of non surgical and surgical rhinoplasty, and it all depends on how you expect your results to be. Make clear to yourself what kind of change you want, and focus on that as you research your options.

After you've done your research, it's important to have full understanding of the risks that will always come with either type of nose job, and to seek out a treatment provider or plastic surgeon at a trusted, safe practice.
