Meet the 8 West team
We’re proud to be the home of facial rejuvenation professionals who are at the top of their field, and that includes our highly qualified team who treat injectables as both a science and a finely-tuned art form. Our medical aesthetic team pride themselves on being the best, as they continue to up-skill, and even train others at a national level for many of our brand partners.
Equally as important as their skills and experience, our team also develops long-term relationships with their patients, assessing their specific muscle movement and anatomy in preparation for treatment. This allows us to tailor your treatment plan to best achieve your individual facial aesthetic goals.
Our medical aestheticians and registered nurse injectors offer a comprehensive and complimentary consultation to discuss your desired results, and provide quotes on your treatment plan. You can also book time for optional treatment after your consultation, in case you just can’t wait for the results to start.
Why we love Dermal Fillers
Next to Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, Dermal Fillers are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments around. We have all seen celebrities talk about their new lips, or heard of someone rejuvenating their under eyes with tear trough fillers. Dermal Fillers are a temporary, non-invasive procedure that refresh and rejuvenate your face in ways that can look almost as good as surgery (sometimes better).
Dermal Fillers, when in the hands of an expert injector, are utilized to plump lips, contour cheeks and noses, enhance chins and jawlines, diminish volume and skin laxity loss, and the list goes on. They are a quick, no downtime treatment that provides immediate results for a natural-looking and refreshed appearance that can last between 6 months – 2 years.
We use only the gold-standard of Dermal Filler products and brands, which are safe, Health Canada and FDA approved.
Am I a Candidate?
Generally speaking, there are two categories of people who will benefit from Dermal Fillers, patients who are noticing changes in the face due to aging and volume loss, and patients wanting to enhance features, like defining their jawline and cheekbones or adding lip volume. Of course these categories also have a lot of cross-over, or may be those looking to supplement other treatments such as Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, Laser Skin Resurfacing or even Surgery.
Most people find that they are great candidates for Dermal Filler, but what and where it is required can vary depending on a number of factors. The best person to ask is, of course, an expert! We offer free consultations with our Senior Injector Nurses, where you can discuss your desired results, treatment options and costs.
You can book your free consultation as a stand-alone, or request additional time with your appointment for optional, same-day treatment. Just discuss this with our friendly and knowledgeable staff when booking your consultation via the phone.
How is it performed?
At 8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic, you’re in the best possible hands with our Registered Nurses and FDA-approved Dermal Fillers – call and ask us which brands of dermal filler we use.
Our experienced Senior Nurse Injectors carefully administer filler injections in the precise areas you wish to target and add volume to, for plumped features and smoothed skin.
This is a minimally-invasive, non-surgical treatment that doesn’t require any anaesthesia, but topical numbing is available if you would prefer. Many of the FDA-approved products in Canada contain lidocaine, to subtly numb your injection areas during your treatment. For patients who are allergic to lidocaine, have this conversation with our friendly staff and treatment providers so we can accommodate your needs.
Some of us treat our lips because they’ve always been small or thin to begin with, or we want to improve their shape, or make them more symmetrical. Others begin lip filler injections when they start seeing volume loss around the mouth and lips due to the aging process.
Often used to enhance and create a sharper jawline, these can be strategically placed in various areas to form definition. They can be used to either feminize or masculinze a face to your desired results.
Patients with sunken, tired or hollow-looking lower eyelids may think this is a skin issue – but it’s actually hollowness under the eye. Dermal fillers can be an excellent option to brighten the eye, and provide you with a more refreshed look. Filler can also help disguise lower eyelid bags in some patients.
It’s common for the cheeks to lose volume as we age, making them a great anti-aging treatment option. Other people choose dermal fillers to create the look of more prominent cheekbones that create a lifted, contoured appearance. Feel free to check out our Blog Post on Cheek Filler to learn more about this specific area of treatment.
Optimizing the chin helps balance out the lower portion of the face. It’s common to get the chin treated in tandem with the jawline or cheeks to give the appearance of a heart-shaped face. Chin filler can also be used to diminish or hide the appearance of a double chin, or sagging jowl.
Very active people, or those with genetically lower levels of body fat will often develop hollow temples which can be corrected with dermal fillers.
Injecting dermal filler in the nose is also called a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors target the nose with dermal filler to augment and contour and balance the nose, or disguise divots or bumps.
While there are more common places that people treat with Dermal Filler, if there is a specific area of your face (or body) you wish to enhance, discuss this during a consultation. It may surprise you just what magic can be done using Dermal Fillers, as well as our other range of aesthetic treatments.
How Dermal Fillers work
Unlike Wrinkle Relaxing Injections, which relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles to form, Dermal Fillers are injected to add volume, plump the face, and add definition and contour.
8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic uses only the highest quality injectables for your facial rejuvenation treatments.
Most of the Dermal Fillers we use at 8 West are based on Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. This is a type of sugar in the body that binds water molecules together, resulting in plump, voluminous skin and features. As we age, Hyaluronic Acid, collagen, skin elastin and tissue begins to slowly break down, which is how our skin lift diminishes. We also carry well-known brands that are based on Poly-L-Lactic Acid or Calcium Hydroxylapatite, which work to plump the skin by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production process over time.
Some Dermal Filler products contain larger particles which are used to soften deep creases, while smaller particles are effective for eliminating fine wrinkles. Our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors are artists who expertly use specific densities of filler, and sometimes combine them, to create the results you want. With a bespoke dermal filler plan, treatments will immediately or in the long-term help the face look more naturally plump, hydrated, and restored in lost volume.
We are extremely selective with our Dermal Filler brands, using only those that meet the highest standards set by the FDA and Health Canada. To learn more about the brands we carry and hold advanced training in, visit our Dermal Filler Brands page.
What to expect
One of the reasons why Dermal Fillers are so popular is that the results are noticeable immediately after your injections, so you can start enjoying plump lips or rejuvenated skin right away. Some patients may experience mild bruising or swelling, which goes away after a few days and can be easily managed with an ice pack.
Treatments are quick and you can go back to work or resume your usual activities right after your appointment. Dermal Filler patients can enjoy their results for six months and up to two years, depending on the area and type of Dermal Fillers used. Lip Filler usually lasts six months, meaning that you’ll only need touch-ups once or twice a year to maintain your desired look. Some Dermal Fillers, such as Jawline, are formulated to mimic bone, so these can last anywhere up to two years.
Ask your treatment provider during your consultation or procedure about the specific Dermal Filler product you are receiving and how long it will last.
Dermal Fillers can be used alone, or combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments. A combination of treatments may be the ideal plan for you, depending on your skin type, areas of concern, and your anti-aging goals. Some treatments that make an excellent complement to Dermal Fillers include Laser Resurfacing and Wrinkle Relaxing Injections. You can learn more about these treatments during your consultation with a treatment provider. Alternatively, we have a team of exceptional Patient Care Managers who you can discuss your concerns with, and they can take you through our full menu of services.
If wrinkles and fine lines, as well as mild loss of skin laxity is a major concern of yours, laser resurfacing treatments such as Halo and ProFractional Laser can be used to diminish the signs of aging, and boost your skin’s natural collagen production.
