Will My Rhinoplasty Surgery Be Cancelled if I Am Ill?

Will My Rhinoplasty Surgery Be Cancelled if I Am Ill?

Your surgery will only be cancelled in the event of a very serious sudden medical condition. It is extremely uncommon for patients to suddenly experience a medical condition that would make it unsafe for them to have surgery.

What Happens If My Surgery is Cancelled or Rescheduled?

If you suffer from a serious medical condition that prevents you from safely having an anesthetic, your surgery may be postponed until your condition resolves. It is important to notify your patient care manager immediately if you have an unexpected serious medical condition. Other medical conditions such as a cold or flu will not result in cancellation/rescheduling of your surgery. Your health situation will be assessed by Dr. Buonassisi and it will be determined if your surgery needs to be cancelled/rescheduled or not.

Conditions That May Result in Postponement of Your Surgery

(please check with your patient care manager) Illnesses that would make it unsafe for you to have anesthetic or to recovery safely from surgery, such as acute pulmonary infections or severe asthma, blood borne infection, heart attack or stroke.

Conditions That Will Not Require Postponement of Your Surgery

You have a cold or flu

You have a headache or migraine

You have had some bad news and don't feel up to having surgery

The timing is no longer good for you to have surgery

I Have the Flu. Will My Surgery be Cancelled?

Congested sinuses, headaches or other unpleasant symptoms related to cold or flu are certainly annoying but don't make your surgery unsafe. The most important thing you to is help prevent the spread of your flu by practicing good contagious illness practices. Notifying the operating facility staff that you have a cold or flu, wash your hands often, and coughing or sneezing into your sleeve.
