This is done to give a slightly more refined or more feminine look to the nose, it is less common in men unless they have a particularly bulbous nose. The key to success with tip refinement is choosing a technique that is appropriate for each patient and for example a patient who has very thick skin would need a different type of tip refinement technique than with someone with very thin skin, so its really important to assess the patient in advance before planning the surgical manoeuvres that you are going to use to refine the tip because it can have a dramatic effect on how the tip looks depending on their skin thickness.
