PRP For Hair Loss

Hair loss can be attributed to a variety of factors including hormonal imbalances, hereditary genes, and alopecia. The list of conditions are vast and treatment options are limited.

Regardless of age or gender, hair loss can be a devastating quandary to be faced with.

The team at 8 West Clinic is pleased to announce that we are now offering PRP for hair loss.

A fantastic alternative to traditional hair transplants and light therapy, this short, minimally invasive procedure has continuously produced some remarkable results.

What is PRP For Hair Loss?

Platelet Rich Plasma aka PRP is a state-of-the-art, non-surgical solution for both men and women, suffering from hair loss.

PRP is completely natural. The procedure involves using the patient's own blood, thus eliminating the risk factors that may come along with other, more invasive hair loss procedures.

How Does PRP Work?

Our blood contains solid and liquid properties. These properties include compounds of red and white blood cells in addition to a light, yellowish substance called plasma.

Plasma is responsible for carrying and distributing nutrients and proteins throughout the body.

More than half of our blood consists of it. In addition to the cells and plasma, blood is also infused with platelets.

Platelets are filled with hundreds of growth factors and proteins that not only aid in the healing of injuries, but have also been used in cosmetic treatments such as the famous Vampire Facial and now, Hair Restoration.

What Happens During A PRP Treatment?

A moderate amount of blood is drawn from the patient and placed into a machine called a centrifuge. Centrifugation is a process used to separate the platelets from other blood cells and increases the concentration of growth factors by 5 to 10 times.

Once the process is completed, the infused platelets are then amalgamated with the residual blood. Injections containing the intermixture are delivered directly into the scalp, stimulating the production of new hair growth by approximately 22%.

Who is a Good Candidate For PRP?

PRP is not a procedure for someone who is rapidly balding. The patients who see the best results are those who are in the early stages of hair loss or thinning. The hair follicles should still be moderately active, even if not producing the desired quantity of hair.

How Many Treatments Are Required

For best results, it is recommended that patients undergo a sequence of 2-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance appointments are recommended approximately twice per year in order to preserve results.

What is The Recovery Like?

Patients may experience mild inflammation and redness to the treated area, which normally subsides within hours post-procedure. Some may experience mild numbness of the scalp following treatment. This is completely normal and typically subsides within a few days.

We ask that our patients do not shampoo their hair for at least 6 hours following their PRP injections, and stay away from hair coloring or any other chemical treatment for about 7 days. Steam rooms and saunas should be avoided for the same duration.
