What should I expect with a Forever Young BBL treatment?

Forever Young BBL treatments are relatively quick, with minimal pain or discomfort and with little to no downtime. Our BBL Hero upgrade allows us to apply the device to large areas of the body, allowing you to be in and out of this treatment during a lunch break.

Many patients are comfortable carrying on with their daily routine after their BBL sessions, but keep in mind that you’ll be more sensitive to sunlight for several weeks, so ensure you are always wearing full-spectrum sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.

You can expect a slight amount of redness in the treated area, which will only last a short time—sometimes only a matter of hours. How to care for and protect your skin post-treatment will be discussed with you prior to treatment, and your medical aesthetician will be available to answer any questions you have before and after you leave.

How long does it take to see results from BBL? Depending on the concern you are treating, result times will vary. During your in-depth skin assessment before your BBL session, your treatment provider will discuss realistic expectations on the results and when you will see them, and will also recommend a customized treatment plan based on your skin concerns and goals.

How is Forever Young BBL performed?

During a Forever Young BBLtreatment, a handheld device is applied to your skin which produces quick pulses of high-intensity light. This device is programmed by your medical aesthetician to target the specific areas and depths of the skin where your specific conditions lie. This state-of-the-art machine is equipped with an advanced cooling feature, allowing the safe and effective use of high-powered energy.

Once your treatment is complete, the appropriate medical-grade skin products will be applied to your treatment area for the very best post-procedure protection and care. This is customized to your skin and treatment to boost the effects of the treatment and ensure optimal results.

How does Forever Young BBL work?

BBL (BroadBand Light) therapy, an evolution of intense pulsed light (IPL), is a corrective phototherapy treatment. BBL is a highly advanced machine which uses broad-spectrum light energy that is adjusted and customized to penetrate and treat the layer of the skin in which the specific condition or issue lies.

BBL harnesses the colours of the light spectrum (the colours you see when you shine a light through a prism) to penetrate the skin at different levels. Our medical aestheticians have a thorough knowledge of laser and skin science to utilize this technology in such a way that they can target the exact depth of the skin where your skin concerns lie.

Who is a candidate for Forever Young BBL?

As Forever Young BBL is a gentle and non-invasive treatment, most people are eligible candidates for this treatment. This highly-customizable technology allows our medical aestheticians to treat a number of patient skin conditions such as:

  • Redness and prominent blood vessels
  • Pigmentation
  • Sun spots/sun damage
  • Freckles
  • Uneven complexion
  • Rosacea
  • Skin laxity

For those looking to treat pigmentation due to melasma, BBL may not be suitable and alternative treatments like HALO laser, MOXI laser, and SkinBright IV Therapy may be recommended instead.

How is Forever Clear BBL performed?

In a Forever Clear BBl treatment, you will be lying down and your face will be thoroughly cleaned prior to treatment. To begin the treatment, a handheld device will then be gently pressed to your skin while a flash of light is applied to the area. This is repeated across the treatment area(s). This device targets areas of active acne and redness, and produces quick pulses of high-intensity light to target both acne-causing bacteria and the red pigment in spots.

This state-of-the-art machine is equipped with an advanced cooling feature, allowing the safe and effective use of high-powered energy in the process.

Once your treatment is complete, the appropriate medical-grade skin products will be applied to your treatment area for the very best post-procedure protection and care. This is customized to your skin and treatment to boost the effects of the treatment and ensure optimal results.

How to care for and protect your skin post-treatment will be discussed with you prior to treatment, and your treatment provider will be available to answer any questions you have after you leave. You will begin to see lighter and clearer skin within a month or two, as your skin cells turn over every 30-40 days (depending on your age). As acne has a number of contributing factors, it is difficult to give an exact timeline and degree of results. The reduced bacteria due to the BBL treatment, combined with regular cleansing and other lifestyle factors can mean quite significant changes in your skin and the level of acne. Your treatment provider will be able to discuss what you can do to achieve the optimal results from your Forever Clear treatment.

How does Forever Clear BBL work?

BBL (BroadBand Light) therapy, an evolution of intense pulsed light (IPL), is a corrective phototherapy treatment. BBL is a highly advanced machine which uses broad-spectrum light energy that is adjusted and customized to penetrate and treat the layer of the skin in which the specific condition or issue lies.

In regards to acne, there are very specific elements in the skin that contribute to acne and pimples, and the BBL device targets these. Two of the primary contributors to active acne are sebum (oil) and bacteria. Cleansing the skin twice daily greatly helps to manage overactive sebum, but a direct way to target and kill the bacteria is with Forever Clear BBL.

Who is a candidate for Forever Clear BBL?

The beauty of Forever Clear BBL is that because it is a gentle light therapy, it is perfect for most people. If you are concerned with the following conditions, Forever Clear BBL may be the perfect treatment for you:

  • Pimples
  • Blackheads
  • Spots
  • Zits
  • Large pores
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Redness from acne scars

As the cause of acne is impossible to pinpoint to one individual factor, the best way to treat this condition is usually with a holistic approach. Our medical aesthetic nurses and skin specialists have a thorough knowledge of acne and it’s causes, so take advantage of our free consultations to understand how to best treat your acne.

BroadBand Light's highly customizable design means that it can treat many conditions apart from acne—such as the signs of aging, pigmentation, uneven complexion, and poor skin laxity. What should I expect with a MOXI laser treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, it will feel and look as if you have a mild sunburn feeling for approximately one hour.

The next day you will experience some mild pink flushed skin, which is easily covered with mineral makeup. Your skin will feel hot, but shouldn’t be uncomfortable or painful.

From day 3 onwards, your skin will transition to a very dry texture for approximately 5 days (other people generally won’t even notice it). By the end of this one-week period, your skin will feel smoother, and you will notice a healthy glow.

While you’ll definitely see improvements after your first treatment, we often recommend 3-6 sessions, spaced every 4 weeks for the best results. We offer packages of x3 MOXIs. Your treatment provider will be able to suggest the best course of action with MOXI, and will suggest how many treatments are ideal to achieve your results.

How is MOXI laser performed?

When you arrive for your MOXI laser session, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the entire treatment area to numb the skin. Once the treatment begins, the MOXI laser handpiece is rolled over your skin, sending its non-ablative wavelengths to the bottom layers of the skin and tissue to stimulate collagen from within.

How does MOXI laser work?

MOXI uses a non-ablative laser, meaning that it doesn’t resurface the skin like other lasers (HALO, ProFractional, TRL). This is what makes MOXI the perfect year-round treatment for most skin types. MOXI works by heating up the tissue underneath the dermis to stimulate collagen without touching the surface.

Who is a candidate for MOXI laser resurfacing?

While MOXI is absolutely custom-built to treat most skin types, at all times of the year, there are some groups of patients who may find MOXI the ideal treatment:

  • Younger Age Groups: Those looking to treat the early signs of aging, and start their laser treatment journey. MOXI is a good entry-point, with a gentle treatment procedure and no downtime.
  • Maintenance: Those who receive other laser treatments, such as HALO, and are looking to maintain their results from deeper treatments throughout the year.
  • Active Individuals: If hiking, biking, or kitesurfing is your favourite hobby, then MOXI is for you. Perfect for those who enjoy spending time in the sun, but still want laser treatments.
  • Melasma Patients: Help keep the signs of melasma under control all year-round.

Depending on the concerns that you are wanting to target, other laser treatments may be more effective in treating these conditions with MOXI being reserved for later maintenance. All patients who wish to book an appointment for treatment will have a complimentary skin consultation prior. Our medical aestheticians will ensure that your treatment plan is tailor made to your skin, and will address not only your conditions, but will take your lifestyle and personal needs into consideration as well.

What should I expect with a Contour TRL treatment?

Our skin specialists have performed thousands of laser treatments and are experts in helping you prepare and recover from your procedure. You will be provided with detailed instructions prior to treatment, such as what to avoid and how to prepare your skin.

The treatment itself takes roughly 30-45 minutes and you will be asked to avoid certain stay out of the sun post-treatment. After the treatment, you will be provided with comprehensive recovery instructions, with details on how to keep your skin clean and protected as you recover. It is also recommended to return to the clinic at certain intervals to receive a red light therapy treatment, which will help to enhance and speed up the healing process.

The amount of downtime that you experience will depend on how deep your treatment is and what areas are treated, which will be discussed with you during your consultation. Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be red, feel sunburned, and potentially experience some pinpoint bleeding. We do recommend taking a few days off work, and to avoid exercise and exposure to the sun. Most patients having deep skin resurfacing will take 5 to 7 days off work and limit social activities for 1 to 2 weeks.

How is Contour TRL performed?

While this is an incredibly powerful laser treatment, it is also regarded as the safest and most effective laser for gently and precisely removing the outer layers of the skin. The result is a reduction or even elimination of fine lines and wrinkles, and softer, smoother, younger-looking skin.

A numbing topical ointment will be applied to your skin prior to treatment, as well as other methods of pain management will be discussed prior to your appointment. Our number one priority is your comfort, so we will ensure that you are experiencing as little pain or discomfort as we can provide.

The treatment requires you in a reclined position, as our expert medical aesthetician drags the laser applicator over the treatment area, precisely controlling the depth of the laser treatment, depending on the condition being treated.

There are a number of safety precautions, such as eye protectors and a second aesthetician assisting during your treatment.

How does Contour TRL work?

Like many other laser resurfacing treatments, Contour TRL uses its highly customizable Erbium YAG laser technology to penetrate and resurface the skin, while simultaneously stimulating collagen and elastin.

What makes the Sciton Contour TRL truly unique when compared to other resurfacing lasers is the technology, which allows your treatment provider to have independent control over the depth of ablation and coagulation with micron precision. A micron is equivalent to one millionth of a meter, and is a common unit of measurement used for the skin. With the TRL technology, the precision and control is unmatched by any other laser of this class—with the ability to penetrate as shallow as 4 microns, to as deep as 200 microns per pass.

The next feature of the Contour TRL laser which makes it so unique is that it makes it possible to ablate (resurface) as shallow or deep as is appropriate for the patient, with or without coagulation (heat). Because the Contour TRL decouples ablation from coagulation unlike some other lasers, we can dial in the exact tissue effect needed for each patient’s pathology, objectives, and tolerance for downtime.

Who is a candidate for Contour TRL?

As Contour TRL is our most powerful laser, it is typically reserved for patients with moderate-severe signs of aging, or acne scarring. We have a number of laser treatments that target various conditions, where TRL is the most ideal is if you observe the following skin conditions or concerns:

  • Mild to deep wrinkles
  • Persistent peri-oral (around the mouth) and peri-orbital (around the eyes) deep rhytides
  • Acne scars, post-traumatic scars and surgical scars
  • Actinic keratoses
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Lax skin in all areas
  • Poor skin tone or texture

The best way to determine your candidacy for this treatment is to book a complimentary consultation with one of our medical aestheticians. They will perform a thorough analysis of your skin and your concerns, and provide you with a customized treatment plan. Our entire range of laser treatments is taken into consideration, combined with over a decade of experience to determine your treatment plan, so you can rest assured knowing we have your best interests at heart.

What should I expect with ProFractional laser resurfacing?

Post-treatment, the wound-healing response already starts to kick in as a natural response to the controlled micro-damage and resurfacing. It is extremely common to experience redness, swelling and pinpoint bleeding and light scabbing directly after treatment.

One day after treatment your skin will begin to flake and peel off naturally, and it is strongly advised to let this happen naturally and don’t exfoliate.

3-4 days from treatment you will continue to flake and peel as your skin continues to recover. Most people tend to take this as time off from work resting, as it is suggested to avoid putting makeup on during this period, and to avoid exercise (very light exercise is fine).

5-7 days from treatment you will be able to return to your normal routine. Mineral makeup can be used to cover redness, and you can resume more strenuous exercise.

The healing process is an important part of ProFractional treatment, as your skin will continue to gradually repair itself over the next few weeks while collagen and elastin are rebuilt in the dermis and fresh, healthy tissue replace the ablated skin. Two weeks post-treatment, once the skin has healed and flaking has completely stopped, you will already notice brighter, fresher and clearer skin—but that isn’t where the miracle stops.

Your skin continues to generate collagen and elastin deep in the dermis for the 6 months following treatment. At the 6 month mark is where your skin will have a significantly improved appearance, and the best of the results will have come to the surface, leaving your skin refreshed, healthy and glowing for all to see!

How is ProFractional laser resurfacing performed?

Once your skin has been numbed and you’ve been prepared in your treatment bed, your ProFractional procedure begins. Your medical aesthetician programs the ProFractional system according to what you discussed in your consultation with consideration of your concerns, desired outcomes, and tolerance for downtime. The device then gets pressed gently to the face in a series of strategic passes, allowing the laser to penetrate micro channels in the skin. With pain properly controlled, your face won’t feel a thing throughout the treatment. Depending on what is being treated, the treatment length can take from 15-30 minutes to an hour.

How does ProFractional laser work?

After your ProFractional treatment, your skin will continue to gradually repair itself over the next few weeks while collagen and elastin are rebuilt in the dermis and fresh, healthy tissue replace the ablated skin. For the best results, ProFractional treatments are typically performed in a series of 3 or more sessions, which are spaced out approximately 6 weeks in between. Upon completion of your treatments and your healing over about 6 more months, your skin will have a significantly improved appearance whether smoothing out acne scars and surgical scars, smoothing deeper wrinkles or age lines, correcting melasma, or fading brown spots.

With the ability to treat deeper into the dermis than many other laser resurfacing technologies, more optimal results can be achieved for more moderate concerns like scar removal and wrinkle smoothing in a smaller number of treatment sessions—without the compromise of an extensive downtime period.

Who is a candidate for ProFractional laser resurfacing?

Our highly skilled treatment providers are committed to helping you in your journey to looking and feeling your best in your own skin, however small or large that journey is. Being a candidate for ProFractional laser depends on a number of complex factors which will need to be assessed by a skin expert. This is so that they can clarify exactly what your concern or condition is, as another laser or medical treatment may be ideal instead of, or in tandem with ProFractional laser.

If HALO laser is the right fit for you, your medical aesthetics specialist will discuss your aftercare instructions and your 4-step routine thoroughly with you. The best way to find out if HALO is for you is by meeting with one of our experts in a complimentary skin consultation.

What should I expect with a HALO laser treatment?

Thanks to the numbing cream that keeps you comfortable, a HALO treatment simply feels warm and prickly as it moves along your skin. Depending on the area or areas you are treating, sessions take around 20 minutes to 1 hour.

After your HALO laser treatment, you will be a bit red and sensitive, and the area will feel quite hot, but you’ll be able to go back to your normal activities right away. Keep in mind that it is imperative to have your skin protected for the first 24 hours, meaning staying makeup-free and keeping out of the sun, so some patients opt to take a day off work for recovery.

Your skin will begin peeling after 3 to 4 days, revealing the glowing, rejuvenated, refreshed skin below. Over the coming weeks, you’ll see improvements in your skin’s tone and texture, with optimal results visible about 2 to 3 months after your treatment. This is due to the depth that the laser reaches and stimulates collagen in the dermis (under the layer of your skin). Leaving you looking and feeling firmer, smoother, and more radiant from deep within.

Many patients are eager to find out how long HALO results last. With proper sun protection and skincare, you’ll be able to enjoy beautifully rejuvenated skin for several years, but many opt to return for yearly maintenance sessions, often after the summer season to treat new sun damage.

How is the HALO laser treatment performed?

When you arrive for your HALO laser session, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the entire treatment area to numb the skin. Once the treatment begins, the handpiece is rolled over your skin, sending wavelengths to both the top and bottom layers of the skin and tissue.

Pigment from the damaged skin is brought to the surface and will peel off in the first few days after treatment and the tissues below the surface will continue to regenerate through the body’s natural healing process.

Patients will see significant changes in their skin tone and texture after just one session, although many people choose to have two or more treatments, depending on their skin’s goals and the type of results that they want to achieve.

How does HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser work?

HALO is a state-of-the-art laser treatment that eliminates years of damage and restores your skin’s youthful glow. This powerful medical-grade laser treatment combines two wavelengths to simultaneously target the top layer of skin and the deeper tissue beneath the surface. The combination of wavelengths repairs visible signs of sun damage and aging, like discolouration and uneven skin tone on the surface layer, while also heating the tissues under the skin to kick collagen production into high gear, resulting in firmer, smoother skin over time.

HALO’s dual-wave technology is highly customized, depending on your unique needs, and does double-duty in maximizing results with minimal downtime.

Who is a candidate for HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser?

As HALO is a fantastic treatment for any skin type, skin tone or age, many people find themselves seeing phenomenal results from HALO treatments, and combination treatments that include HALO. Our medical aesthetics specialist knows the complex anatomy of skin, inside and out, so they will be able to assess if HALO is the ideal treatment for you.

While you may have one or some of the skin conditions or concerns above, this may not necessarily mean that you are an ideal candidate for HALO. 8 West Clinic provides complimentary and comprehensive skin consultations for patients so we can tailor a treatment plan that is bespoke to you. We host a range of skin treatment options, including Microneedling, IPL/Broadband Laser, Moxi, ProFractional Laser and TRL – all designed to treat a multitude of skin concerns.

What should I expect with Potenza RF microneedling?

Treatment times may vary, however most treatments can be performed in 30-45 minutes or less. Potenza treatments are well-tolerated, with minimal post-treatment side effects, such as a mild to moderate burning sensation, mild pink flushed skin, potential swelling, possible light pinpoint bleeding, and temporary tingling.

Next Day: Mild pink flushed skin – easily covered with mineral makeup, swelling can last 24-48 hours.

3rd Day: Transitions to a dry texture for approximately 5 days (other people generally won’t even notice it!)

Results: Typically, you will see an overall brightness of the skin 1 week post-treatment, but the true magic of Potenza’s long-lasting results will be seen anywhere from 2-5 months after treatment. This is because it takes up to this long for collagen and elastin to rebuild and show on the more superficial layers of the skin.

How is Potenza RF microneedling performed?

Potenza RF microneedling is a non-invasive treatment that can be performed on any part of the face or body that takes only about 30 minutes. The treatment is pain-minimal, but you will have the option for a topical numbing ointment if you would prefer, which takes about 20-30 minutes to take effect prior to treatment.

The treatment has you in a reclined and relaxed position, and the Potenza RF microneedling pen is gently stamped over your treatment area. Much like traditional microneedling, Potenza uses ultra fine needles that rapidly move to penetrate into the dermis to create controlled damage. Where this treatment differs from traditional microneedling is that as this happens, the machine also uses radiofrequency to deliver either a monopolar or bipolar energy wavelength, adding heat deeper into the skin, stimulating significant collagen and elastin production.

How does Potenza RF microneedling work?

The beauty of this revolutionary treatment is how it treats the deeper layers of the skin using monopolar or bipolar energy in tandem with controlled resurfacing to the upper layers, simultaneously. By using these ultrafine needles to create controlled damage to your dermis, the micro-channels trigger the natural healing response in your skin to re-form smoother, healthier skin. The addition of radiofrequency is what sends heat deeper into the dermis, which is where collagen and elastin is produced. Controlled coagulation (heat) is the best way to stimulate large amounts of elastin and collagen, rebuilding and re-tightening the skin.

Bipolar Vs. Monopolar:

The addition of monopolar and bipolar energy wavelengths is what makes this treatment so customizable, and available to those with darker skin types.

  • Bipolar wavelengths are a more superficial, wider delivery of energy and is great for skin types 1-3 (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can be a risk for darker skin types).
  • Monopolar wavelengths are deeper, more focused delivery of energy, which allows for treatment of all skin types. Most skin treatment machines only offer the bipolar wavelength.

Potenza can be adjusted to tailor to any skin type & any level of aggressiveness.

Who is a candidate for Potenza RF microneedling?

The beauty of Potenza RF microneedling is that it is specifically designed to be used on all skin types, at any time of the year, and on any part of the face or body. This makes most people a candidate for Potenza RF microneedling. Those wanting to achieve the following results are likely candidates for Potenza RF microneedling:

  • Combat the signs of aging
  • Clearer, smoother skin texture and complexion
  • Tighter and firmer skin
  • Reduction of scarring, such as acne scars and stretch marks

As with all of our skin treatments at 8 West Clinic, it is always best to schedule a complimentary skin consultation to determine your ideal candidacy. Our medical aestheticians have decades of experience with different skin conditions and concerns, and will be able to design a bespoke treatment plan to deliver the best results possible.

What should I expect with an EMFACE treatment?

During the treatment session, you will lie down in a private treatment room while the EMFACE applicators are placed on the targeted areas of your face. You’ll feel the device emit high-intensity electromagnetic waves that cause involuntary muscle contractions, which can feel like an intense facial workout. You may also feel a warming sensation, similar to the feeling of a hot stone massage, as the device emits radiofrequency energy in the deep layers of your skin.

There is no pre-preparation required for this procedure, but your medical aesthetician will have asked you to come to your treatment making sure you are well-hydrated. The more hydrated your skin and muscle tissues are, the less resistance they will have towards the radiofrequency energy being used with EMFACE. This allows the energy to travel more efficiently in order to selectively heat in your skin’s dermis layer. Ultimately, this means a more effective but also a more comfortable treatment.

Each treatment session typically lasts a quick 20 minutes, and you will be able to resume your regular activities immediately after the session.

Results can vary depending on the individual, but you will begin to feel tangible results immediately after the treatments. Your skin will look firmer and more youthful, and you may notice a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Optimal results are typically seen about 3 months after completing your EMFACE treatment plan, which for most will consist of 4 sessions spaced about 1 week apart. You can expect to see further improvement over several more weeks as your skin continues to produce collagen.

On average, patients will find their EMFACE results lasting between 6 months to 1 year. You can come in for maintenance sessions anytime within the 6 months to 1 year.

How is EMFACE performed?

EMFACE treatments are performed as an in-office procedure by your treatment provider. It begins with your treatment provider cleansing your face and ensuring the targeted areas are prepped for the most efficient treatment.

The node-like EMFACE applicators attached to the machine are then comfortably taped on the surface of your skin at the precise treatment areas of the forehead and cheeks, in accordance with your facial anatomy. Once your medical aesthetician customizes the machine to your required settings and activates the treatment, the applicators will emit a series of small electrical impulses and radiofrequency energy to the underlying facial muscles and tissues, causing them to contract and relax at varying intensities. This process helps to tone and lift the facial muscles while also stimulating collagen production for improved skin texture. From here, the process is automated and will continue for a duration of 20 minutes.

After the session, your provider will remove the applicators and apply a medical-grade moisturizer or serum to soothe and hydrate your skin, completing the treatment.

How does EMFACE work?

You can think of EMFACE as a high-tech facial workout machine that safely uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES) in conjunction with radiofrequency (RF) energy in a controlled manner to stimulate facial skin, muscles, and connective tissue. EMFACE is the first device on the market utilizing patented, hands-free, applicators to simultaneously emit both Synchronized RF and HIFES energies in a single treatment.

HIFES™ TECHNOLOGY: HIFES uses a powerful but harmless form of electromagnetic stimulation to contract the muscles in a targeted area. These magnetic fields create electrical currents, which are passed to the muscles in the face. The high intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES) technology restores and elevates support of facial tissues by selectively contracting muscles and increasing density and quality of muscle structure.

RF TECHNOLOGY: At the same time, the EMFACE device also emits Synchronized Radiofrequency energy, which remodels and smooths the skin by heating the dermis and increasing the levels of collagen and elastin fibers deep in the skin.

Who is a candidate for EMFACE?

As time goes by, one’s muscle tone gradually decreases to the point the entire face starts to sag. In addition to losing muscle tone, the constant use of facial muscles for facial expression begins leaving deeper wrinkles on one’s face.

EMFACE is an excellent option for those who are starting to see the signs of aging, such as volume loss, wrinkles, and fine lines, but may not necessarily be a candidate for more invasive procedures such as a facelift. It can also benefit individuals who have lost weight or experienced significant changes in their facial shape and want to restore a more youthful, lifted appearance.

For younger patients who may be looking more towards prejuvenation or maintenance, EMFACE will treat deep facial skin layers and selected muscles so it can be used as a preventive procedure instead of just treating visible facial wrinkles. EMFACE applicators are intended to be applied over the forehead and the cheeks, but the effects of the treatment are visible in overall facial appearance.

EMFACE can nicely complement injectable treatments like dermal fillers or wrinkle relaxers, but it could also stand alone to achieve like effects without having to undergo injections—a plus for patients who may not be comfortable with needles.

It’s important to note that EMFACE may not be appropriate for everyone. People with certain medical conditions, such as epilepsy, pacemakers, or metal implants in the treatment area, may not be suitable candidates for the treatment. It’s always best to consult with your treatment provider to determine if this treatment is right for you.

Along with decades of experience, our medical aestheticians will suggest a treatment that will yield the results you are looking for. Take advantage of our complimentary consultations to determine if you are a candidate for EMFACE.

What should I expect with sclerotherapy injections?

After treatment you will be required to wear a compression garment during your recovery for one week. You will be able to return to work the same day, but should take it easy for a few days post-procedure (no strenuous exercise). Complete pre- and post-treatment instructions will be provided to you by your injector.

To help prevent future spider veins in other areas, there are a few health tips you can follow:

  • Keep active
  • Try not to sit for long periods
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Wear compression garments
  • Wear sunscreen
How do sclerotherapy injections work?

Spider veins are caused when the veins that carry blood back to the heart become damaged or weak. These veins contain a one-way valve that closes once blood has passed through it, ensuring that blood doesn’t flow backwards. If this one-way valve weakens or becomes damaged, which can happen simply by aging, it can result in blood pooling inside the vein. Over time this results in a bulge in the skin that branches out like a spider’s web; thus the name spider veins.

Sclerotherapy treats this by flushing the vein out with a sugar or salt solution, which then causes the blood vessel to collapse and stick together. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue and will fade, resulting in the vanishing of the superficial spider vein.

Who is a candidate for sclerotherapy spider vein treatments?

As this is quite a common treatment among women, most are considered candidates for this treatment. There are a number of factors that contribute to an increased likelihood of spider veins, such as pregnancy, hormones, sun exposure, and physical inactivity.

The primary factor if someone is a candidate or not is if they have spider veins (not to be confused with varicose veins) that they are self-conscious about and wish to treat. To confirm that this is the ideal treatment for your concerns, we do suggest booking a complimentary consultation with our aesthetic nurses to ensure this is the correct course of action for you.

What should I expect with double chin injections?

For the week following the treatment, you can expect some stinging and swelling around the injection site. Subsequent treatments usually have less downtime, however most patients find they have some swelling for the week after their treatments. We always suggest scheduling work and social events outside of the expected treatment downtime; so take some time off, relax and enjoy a self-care week just for you!

It takes between 4-6 weeks for the deoxycholic acid to work in the body, and for you to begin to start to see the results. It’s important to keep your treatment plan in mind, as just one treatment may not deliver the complete results you are after. Your treatment provider will discuss the process with you, and set your expectations for your results timeline.

How are double chin injections performed?

Your treatment sessions will require you to be in a relaxed, reclined position. Your treatment provider will mark a series of injection points under your chin, which will be in a grid-like pattern. Your injector will then administer multiple injections into these marked points, directly into the submental subcutaneous fat.

Treatment typically lasts no longer than an hour, including an optional topical numbing ointment. During the treatment you will feel a mild stinging sensation at the injection site which may last for a couple of days. The number of injections and treatments required will be customized to the individual patient’s submental fat distribution and treatment goals.

How do double chin injections work?

Double chin injections utilize deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Deoxycholic acid destroys the walls of fat cells when they come in contact with them. Once the walls have been destroyed, they are unable to hold or accumulate fat, resulting in less fullness under the chin.

Who is a candidate for double chin injections?

This treatment is usually a perfect fit for most patients, as it can be a great less invasive alternative to surgery or chin liposuction. Those searching for double chin injections are usually looking to treat:

  • Double chin
  • Sagging jowl
  • Undefined jawline
  • Deprojected chin

CoolSculpting is another non-surgical, permanent treatment for a double chin, and may be better suited to your specific concern. A free consultation with one of our medical aestheticians is the recommended way to determine the best way forward to reach your goals.

Double chin injections should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are allergic to deoxycholic acid, or if you have a current infection in your chin area.

What should I expect with a non-surgical facelift treatment?

A non-surgical facelift results in a brighter, less tired, and more youthful appearance, all in a way that looks and feels natural. You’ll see the effects of the dermal fillers right away, and the neuromodulators will show their full effect within two weeks after your treatment.

As with any injectable treatment, the results of a non-surgical facelift aren’t permanent, but you’ll be able to enjoy your “lift” and refreshed look for 3 months and up to about a year (depending on the areas treated) before coming back to see us for follow-up maintenance sessions.

How is a non-surgical facelift performed?

During your nonsurgical facelift session, your expert injector will skillfully place your optimal combination of neuromodulators and dermal fillers in areas of the face that your treatment plan calls for.

No sedation is required during your procedure, as neuromodulators and Dysport injections are relatively painless pricks, and many dermal fillers contain lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic that will make you more comfortable during your treatment session. We are extremely selective with our injectables products, using only those that meet the highest standards set by the FDA and Health Canada such as Botox and Dysport.

Depending on the number of areas you’ve chosen to target, the process can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or more. You can return to the rest of your day immediately after, although some patients experience some bruising and swelling, which can be treated with ice and will fade within a few days.

Who is a candidate for a non-surgical facelift?

A non-surgical facelift may be the ideal way for patients with mild to moderate signs of aging to effectively treat their areas of concern without the need for an invasive procedure. Patients who have realistic expectations and desire subtle and natural anti-aging benefits will love the results of a non-surgical facelift that treats these areas:

  • Between the brows
  • Forehead
  • Temples
  • Outer eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Mid-face
  • Jawline
  • Chin
  • Lips
  • Under the eyes
  • Cheeks

A precise combination of injections gives our patients a “lift” in their appearance and attitude, so they look more refreshed and revitalized and feel their best. When you visit us for your complimentary consultation, we’ll discuss your unique needs and rejuvenation goals and will tailor a comprehensive treatment plan that’s created just for you.

What is a non-surgical facelift?

A facelift without surgery, also called a liquid facelift, uses a combination of dermal fillers and neuromodulators to treat or prevent signs of aging by smoothing wrinkles and plumping areas that hollow out as we get older.

Carefully placed injections target the specific areas that you’re concerned with, and your treatment plan is fully customizable to your unique anatomy and beautification or anti-aging goals.

A nonsurgical facelift uses a strategic combination of neuromodulators and dermal fillers, and we use only gold-standard injectable products to ensure the best results possible. Neuromodulators relax targeted facial muscles smooth out dynamic wrinkles around the eyes, between the brows, and in the forehead that form from repeated frowning or raising our eyebrows. Dermal fillers plump, restore volume, and contour areas of your face, like the cheeks, lips, jawline, and temples to make them look more youthful and defined.

It’s important to note that a nonsurgical facelift won’t produce the same level of results as a surgical facelift, so there are some limitations to what this type of treatment can and cannot do. For example, a nonsurgical facelift won’t remove excess skin or lift drooping features. Patients who are accepting of these limitations can fully enjoy the beautiful results of their non-surgical facelift.

How is double eyelid surgery performed?

At 8 West Clinic, Dr. Thomas Buonassisi performs two different types of double eyelid surgery; the incisional and suture techniques. Which technique is used depends on a number of deciding factors, and depends on the candidacy of each individual patient. During your in-person consultation with Dr. Buonassisi, the technique that is optimal for you will be discussed.

Incisional Technique: Dr. Buonassisi carefully makes fine incisions in the upper eyelid skin, and removes any excess skin and fat that is necessary. The incision is then sealed using stitches, and the surgical scar is hidden in the new eyelid crease. Double eyelid surgery takes approximately 1 hour, and patients can return home the same day.

Suture Technique: Rather than making an incision and removing fat and skin, the suture technique (as the name indicates) utilizes a number of small incisions, and surgical thread being placed throughout the eyelid to create a crease. The suture remains in the eyelid, and will compress the eyelid skin to create the crease. This technique can be revised and altered at a later date, by removing the suture, and repeating the procedure.

Who is a candidate for double eyelid surgery?

If you were born with eyelids that do not have a crease, or your creases are asymmetrical, and you are bothered with the appearance of closed, puffy upper eyelids, double eyelid surgery may be the ideal option for you.

You may be a candidate for double eyelid surgery if you have any of the following physical features:

  • Single eyelid (no upper eyelid fold)
  • Asymmetrical upper eyelid folds
  • Single or asymmetrical eyelid and puffy upper eyelids characterized by excess eyelid skin
How is double chin surgery performed?

An incision is placed just underneath the chin where it is easily hidden. The skin of the neck is elevated to expose the underlying fat. If there is extra fat, it is removed either directly or with liposuction. If the patient has a lax platysma muscle, it is tightly bound with sutures. This allows for significant structural support for the neck and a defined neck angle. If the patient’s chin is recessive, a chin implant is used to create a more prominent chin area. The incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. A compression garment must then be worn diligently for several weeks after the surgery.

Who is a candidate for double chin surgery?

Patients with any combination of features including: a lax platysma muscle, excess fat in the neck area, and/or a recessive chin may be candidates for a double chin surgery. Double chin surgery may be appropriate for younger patients under the age of 40 who don’t have any lower face or neck skin laxity. Patients over the age of 40 typically have lower face laxity that would render double chin surgery ineffective. Patients over the age of 40 who have a poor neck angle or double chin are also typically looking for an improvement in the jowls, jawline, and cheek area—making them more ideal candidates for lower facelift surgery.

How is neck liposuction performed?

For patients who would benefit from liposuction alone, tiny incisions are placed in the neck area where they are easily hidden. Excess fat is gently removed with liposuction. The incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. A compression garment is worn after surgery to help the skin retract back onto the new neck shape.

Who is a candidate for neck liposuction?

Neck liposuction surgery is ideal for people of all ages who are frustrated with the appearance of a fuller neck that lacks definition. This surgery is not appropriate for patients who are looking for an improvement in the lower face area, such as the jawline or jowls—these patients may be candidates for facelift surgery.

What are the types of rhinoplasty techniques?

For people who want a rhinoplasty, it is tempting to want to focus strictly on how the nose will look after surgery. Your motivation should be to find a surgeon who has extensive experience with the nose both functionally and cosmetically. Many rhinoplasties will require that changes be made to the septum (the wall of cartilage that separates the two nasal airways) which can affect your breathing. In addition to improving the cosmetic look of your nose, you also want your nose to function as well or even better than before surgery.

ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY (PIEZO RHINOPLASTY):

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty (also known as ultrasound rhinoplasty or piezoelectric rhinoplasty; piezo rhinoplasty for short) is a modern surgical technique used to reshape and refine the nose by utilizing ultrasonic energy. Unlike traditional methods that involve manual tools, ultrasonic rhinoplasty employs a specialized Piezotome® device that emits high-frequency sound waves to precisely sculpt the nasal bones and tissues. The ultrasonic energy effectively softens and cuts through bone or cartilage without injuring the surrounding soft tissues, allowing for more enhanced precision and more controlled reshaping.

PRESERVATION RHINOPLASTY:

Preservation rhinoplasty is a subtle, modern approach to modifying the aesthetic appearance of the nose. The primary goal of preservation rhinoplasty is to retain as much of the patient’s original bone and cartilage as possible while improving the general appearance of the nose. The technique is used exclusively for modifying the nasal bridge, while traditional techniques are still required for tip modifications. In the right patient, however, it is a phenomenal technique that can give excellent results. Preservation rhinoplasty is very complex and it’s just one of the tools that a skilled rhinoplasty surgeon will have in their tool kit.

HUMP REDUCTION RHINOPLASTY:

Resizing the bump on the bridge of the nose is one of the most common reasons that people pursue Rhinoplasty. As the name suggests, this surgery works by reducing and resizing the dorsal hump of your nose, to soften and balance the nose.

TIP REFINEMENT & ROTATION RHINOPLASTY:

This term refers to a collection of surgical techniques that target the tip of the nose. From tilting the tip up, to narrowing a larger tip; tip refinement is often combined with other Rhinoplasty procedures, such as hump reduction or correcting a crooked nose, for the most striking, natural-looking results.

ALAR BASE REDUCTION:

Alar base reduction refers to reducing the width of the alar, or base, of the nose. It is often, but not always, combined with augmentation Rhinoplasty. A small incision is placed at the base of each nostril, and a wedge of tissue is excised so that the nose appears smaller and more narrow.

AUGMENTATION RHINOPLASTY:

Another procedure that is often combined with other Rhinoplasty techniques, augmentation involves increasing the height of the bridge of the nose. Limitations do exist with what can be done and expectations are set very early on.

FACIAL FEMINIZATION RHINOPLASTY (NOSE FEMINIZATION):

Rhinoplasty for facial feminization aims to reshape the nose to create a more feminine appearance and is one of the most common feminization surgeries for transgender women. The complex procedure typically involves a combination of techniques such as reducing the width of the nose, narrowing the bridge, refining the tip, and lifting up the angle between the nose and upper lip while ensuring functionality is retained. Through careful incisions and sculpting of the nasal structures particularly with the aid of technologies like the piezo rhinoplasty device, facial feminization rhinoplasty can help soften masculine features and achieve a more harmonious, feminine balance in the face.

Are there other treatments that might complement Emsculpt NEO?

As Emsculpt NEO is primarily intended moreso to help enhance muscle tone, we may suggest the strategic inclusion of CoolSculpting in your body contouring treatment plan if more dedicated fat reduction is something that is recommended. Injectable contouring is also available by way of Sculptra, which can be used to augment the buttocks in a natural manner with a series of Sculptra Non-Surgical Butt Lift treatments.

Radiofrequency technology doesn’t end with Emsculpt, and further skin tightening and treatment of laxity or crepiness and texture on the body may also be used to complement results from Emsculpt NEO using treatments like Potenza RF Microneedling.

Our IV Therapy may also be of interest to you, and our series of NAD and vitamin IV treatments host a series of benefits for your health and wellness. Ask any of our wonderful staff for more information on our IV Therapies and benefits.

What should I expect with Emsculpt Neo?

During the treatment session, you will lie down in a private treatment room while the Emsculpt NEO device is placed on the targeted area of your body. You’ll feel the device emit high-intensity electromagnetic waves that cause involuntary muscle contractions, which can feel like an intense workout. You may also feel a warming sensation, similar to the feeling of a hot stone massage, as the device emits radiofrequency energy to heat up your fat cells.

There is no pre-preparation required for this procedure, but your medical aesthetician will have asked you to come to your treatment making sure you are well-hydrated. The more hydrated your skin and muscle tissues are, the less resistance they will have towards the radiofrequency energy being used with Emsculpt NEO. This allows the energy to travel more efficiently in order to selectively heat fat cells. Ultimately, this means a more effective but also a more comfortable treatment.

Each treatment session typically lasts a quick 30 minutes, and you will be able to resume your regular activities immediately after the session. Many patients describe the post-treatment sensation as feeling like they have just completed a great workout, but there is no pain or discomfort otherwise.

Results can vary depending on the individual and the targeted area of the body, but optimal results are typically seen about 3 months after completing your Emsculpt NEO treatment plan, which for most will consist of 4 sessions spaced 5-10 days apart.

On average, patients will find their Emsculpt NEO results lasting between 6 months to 1 year. You can come in for maintenance sessions anytime within the 6 months to 1 year, but adhering to a regular exercise routine and maintaining a healthy diet will help to prolong your results.

How is Emsculpt NEO performed?

How exactly your Emsculpt NEO treatment will be performed depends on the area you are having treated. We will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible for the procedure. Your medical aesthetician will then locate the ideal areas for treatment. The paddle-like Emsculpt NEO applicator(s) will be placed over the skin on the treatment area, and secured comfortably with a velcro band.

Once the treatment starts, the machine will then begin to work its HIFEM+ and RF magic on your body according to the settings that your treatment provider has customized for you based on your assessment. The machine is fully automated from this point, and all you will have to do is relax for the half-hour treatment until your medical aesthetician removes the applicator(s) and completes the treatment.

If you are receiving multiple Emsculpt NEO sessions as per your customized treatment plan, this process will then be repeated in a different area.

How does Emsculpt NEO work?

You can think of Emsculpt NEO as a high-tech workout machine that safely uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic muscle stimulation (HIFEM+®) in conjunction with radiofrequency (RF) energy in a controlled manner to stimulate your muscles and heat layers of tissue, as if you were doing intense exercises for targeted areas of the body.

HIFEM+ TECHNOLOGY: During an Emsculpt NEO treatment session, the device emits HIFEM+, which uses a powerful but harmless form of electromagnetic stimulation to contract the muscles in a targeted area. How exactly does HIFEM+ work? To answer that question, it’s important to understand the science behind muscle contractions. Muscles contract when electrical signals are sent from the brain to the muscle fibers. These signals cause the fibers to contract, which in turn causes the muscle to move.

Emsculpt NEO uses a similar principle to stimulate muscle contractions, but instead of relying on signals from the brain, it uses electromagnetic energy to directly stimulate the muscles. The HIFEM energy creates an electromagnetic field that penetrates the skin, passing electrical currents to the muscles in the targeted area. This energy causes the muscles to contract and release rapidly. These involuntary contractions are more intense than what can be achieved through voluntary muscle movements. Ultimately, this stimulates muscle growth and strengthens the targeted muscles.

RF TECHNOLOGY: At the same time, the Emsculpt NEO device also emits radiofrequency energy, which adds heat to the tissues in the area and boosts blood supply to the muscles for a more efficacious muscle toning treatment. The RF energy is also able to heat up the layers of fat cells in the area, causing them to physically break down. These fat cells get naturally metabolized by your body, and then flushed through your lymphatic system. This process results in reduced fat and increased muscle mass in the treated area.

Who is a candidate for Emsculpt NEO?

Emsculpt is particularly useful for people who want to tone and strengthen their muscles while shaping their body, but have trouble achieving their desired results with traditional exercises alone. With the advanced NEO technology, the new addition of radiofrequency includes a simultaneous fat reduction element as well as skin tightening for even more effective results.

Athletes and anyone hoping to elevate their physical performance are often great candidates, but Emsculpt NEO in general is a versatile and non-invasive option for just about anyone looking for body contouring or for boosting muscle tone and shape while tackling stubborn areas of fat. While the treatment can be used to treat patients up to a BMI of 35, it is best suited for those who are close to their ideal weight. The most common Emsculpt NEO treatments are for:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Arms
  • Calves
  • Thighs

Another popular body contouring treatment you might think of is CoolSculpting, which is considered the gold standard non-surgical body sculpting treatment for fat loss. Emsculpt NEO is generally best for those who are focused more on building muscle rather than losing fat, but it is a good choice for those who would like both results—the benefits of muscle toning along with the extra boost of fat reduction.

Along with decades of experience, our medical aestheticians will suggest a treatment that will yield the results you are looking for. Take advantage of our complimentary consultations to determine if you are a candidate for Emsculpt NEO.

What should I expect with my CoolSculpting treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, the area may seem a bit red or swollen, but it will be practically unoticeable that you had any treatment done at all. In the days that follow, you may experience a little bruising if you find that you do bruise easily (this is due to the suction of the machine).

The treatment area will feel quite numb for the days that follow, with almost a pins-and-needles sensation, but you won’t experience any pain.

The results timeline does vary while your body naturally breaks up the dead fat cells, and passes them through your lymphatic system. Most patients will see results anywhere from 4 weeks, and up to 12 weeks. The 12 week mark is when your medical aesthetician will book you in for your follow-up appointment, and to continue treatment if this is part of your treatment plan.

How is CoolSculpting performed?

How exactly your CoolSculpting treatment will be performed depends on the area you are having treated. We will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure, and if possible we will have you in a reclined position. Your medical aesthetician will then locate the ideal areas for treatment and mark them. The paddle-like CoolSculpting applicator (or applicators if you are receiving dual-CoolSculpting) will then be applied to the area, to then suction onto the area.

The machine will then begin to cool down to below 0℃, this will feel uncomfortable during this time, but will go numb after 10-15 minutes and we can help with managing this discomfort if required.

Once the CoolSculpting treatment for that area has finished, your aesthetician will remove the applicator and massage the area for a few minutes—this is actually the most important part of the process, as it is helping to break up all of the frozen fat cells to optimize the results.

If you are receiving multiple CoolSculpting sessions as per your customized treatment plan, this process will then be repeated in a different area.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is a safe and effective non-surgical procedure used to reduce fat and contour specific areas of the body, using a technology called Cryolipolysis®. CoolSculpting targets fat cells, freezes and permanently eliminates them.

While diet and exercise can reduce the size of fat cells, they can’t reduce the number of them. With CoolSculpting®, the fat cells are cooled to the point that they die off, are broken down and dissolved by your body, then naturally expelled via your lymphatic system (through your sweat and urine).

All this occurs without any sensations or awareness that this is taking place in the body, so you can carry on with your normal life after your treatment and don’t need to make any changes to your lifestyle.

Who is a candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a versatile and non-invasive option for fat reduction, and if you find that you are close to your ideal weight but are wanting to tackle stubborn areas of fat, CoolSculpting may be ideal for you. The most common CoolSculpting treatments are for:

  • Abdomen/Stomach Fat
  • Arm Fat
  • Thighs (Inner & Outer)
  • Knee Fat
  • Bra Fat
  • Hips
  • Flanks (Sides)
  • Chin/Jowl

Along with decades of experience, our medical aestheticians will suggest a treatment that will yield the results you are looking for. CoolSculpting has very specific criteria they will assess to ensure this is the perfect treatment for you.

CoolSculpting treats subcutaneous fat, which is the fat that sits below the skin and above muscle. To be able to treat this fat, we need to be able to pinch the fat – so it can fit inside the CoolSculpting suction applicators. Take advantage of our complimentary consultations to determine if you are a candidate for CoolSculpting.

What should I expect with with Hybrid CO2 laser?

During the treatment, you will lie down in a private treatment room for a session that typically lasts 30-60 minutes depending on the concern being treated. You will have had a topical anesthetic applied to your skin to minimize any discomfort felt from the laser.

Immediately after treatment, it’s normal to experience some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort, similar to a sunburn. These side effects are expected but temporary, and subside within 7 to 10 days. It’s essential to follow post-procedure care instructions provided by your treatment provider to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications.

Results can vary depending on the individual, but you will begin to feel tangible results within about 1 to 2 weeks of treatment. Your skin will look firmer and clearer, and you may notice a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and texture. Optimal results are typically seen about 2 months after completing your Hybrid treatment plan, which for most will consist of 1 to 2 treatments depending on the severity of your concerns, spaced about 6 to 8 weeks apart. You can expect to see continued enhancement over several more weeks to months as your skin continues to produce collagen.

On average, patients will find their Hybrid laser results lasting between 6 to 18 months, but this number will depend on conditions treated, number of treatments done, and how results are maintained after treatment. You can come in for maintenance sessions anytime within a year after your treatment, depending on the depth of treatment.

How is Hybrid CO2 laser performed?

The Hybrid laser treatment is performed by our skilled medical professionals in the comfort of our state-of-the-art clinic. Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort. Once numbed, the treatment provider will clean the face to prepare it for treatment, and then prepare the Hybrid machine by customizing the patient’s treatment settings.

When the patient is ready to begin, the laser is comfortably applied to the skin using Alma’s flagship ProScan handpiece in a stamp-like manner. The ProScan applicator boasts a cooled tip to enhance treatment safety and patient comfort, and offers rapid coverage of large surface areas for quick treatment times. The device is used to precisely target the areas of concern to stimulate collagen production for improved skin texture and tone. Depending on the extent of treatment needed, sessions typically last between 30 to 60 minutes.

How does the Alma Hybrid® CO2 laser work?

The Alma Hybrid laser works by delivering an innovative combination of fractional CO2 ablative energy with 1570 nm non-ablative energy to the skin’s surface—unseen in the market until the very introduction of Hybrid’s trademarked leading-edge technology.

The dual lasers are applied in a precise grid pattern in precise ratios and work in tandem (or separately as needed) when the laser is applied to the skin during treatment. The device’s advanced level of customizability allows for a very accurately tailored delivery of energy that, in the hands of a skilled provider, offers the most optimized ratio of results to downtime.

CO2 TECHNOLOGY: The fractional CO2 technology in the Hybrid laser creates microscopic channels in the skin while delivering the optimal blend of ablative, coagulative, and thermal effect, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and promoting collagen production.

1570 NM TECHNOLOGY: The non-ablative thermal energy bypasses the topmost layer of the skin and instead targets and heats deeper layers of tissue in microscopic channels, promoting new dermis synthesis to further enhance skin tightening and rejuvenation.

Who is a candidate for Hybrid CO2 laser?

Ideal candidates for the Alma Hybrid laser are individuals looking for the high-impact improvements to skin quality that can be achieved with the power of CO2 lasers, but without the significant lengths of downtime. Patients with darker skin types who are looking for laser resurfacing that is safe but still efficacious can also benefit from the revolutionary technology of the Hybrid laser, which allows for extensive customization of the delivery of energy.

Whether you’re bothered by signs of aging, acne scars, or sun damage, this treatment may be suitable for you. During your skin consultation at 8 West Clinic, our medical aesthetics team will assess your skin concerns and discuss your goals to determine if Hybrid is the right choice for you.

How are lip filler injections performed?

Our highly experienced aesthetic injectors will ensure that you are informed on the treatment process, and that you are as comfortable as possible. Before your treatment you will have a topical ointment placed on your lips to aid in numbing them for a more comfortable treatment. Once your lips are sufficiently numb, your treatment provider will gently inject the dermal filler into several strategic areas to achieve the desired results.

What to expect with lip filler injections?

Lip augmentation typically lasts for 6 to 8 months, but varies from person to person, depending on how fast their body metabolizes the product. Immediately after treatments, you’ll notice the results right away. Post-treatment swelling and possibly minor bruising may occur, and mean that your lips look larger than they will eventually settle down to be. It takes about 2 to 4 weeks for the filler to settle in and fully integrate into the tissue to give you natural, plump lips.

How do lip fillers work?

At 8 West Clinic, we use only the highest-grade dermal filler products for our lip injection treatments. We are extremely selective with our lip filler products, using only those that meet the highest standards set by the FDA and Health Canada and are considered the gold standard in lip augmentation. Our dermal fillers are designed specifically for the lips and are made with hyaluronic acid—a substance naturally found in the body, which is a sugar that binds together water molecules. The dermal fillers also contain the local anaesthetic lidocaine to numb the area and make the treatments more comfortable.

Lip filler treatments are customizable, based on the results you want to see. Some patients want to add volume to thin lips, create shape and contour, increase the vertical height of the lip, accentuate or de-accentuate the cupid’s bow, or rejuvenate the area surrounding the lips.

Who is a candidate for lip filler injections?

Lip fillers are great treatment options for anyone looking to add lip volume or definition. Lip injections are best-known for plumping the lips, but there are many other ways fillers can augment the lip area. Most common treatment areas:

Vermillion border (edge of the lip): Patients looking to accentuate the look of the lip without adding excessive volume, while creating beautiful and natural lips.

Cupid’s bow: Filler can be used to accentuate the cupid bow, or soften the shape, depending on your preference to enhance the look of the upper lip.

Lower lip: Typically slightly thicker than the upper lip, so it’s important for our aesthetic nurse injectors to inject the correct amount of filler to keep proportions natural looking.

Gummy smile: Greater upper-lip volume, often used together with wrinkle relaxing injections, may help disguise a gummy smile.

Enjoy one of our complimentary consultations to discuss your lip and aesthetic goals. Afterwards, you’ll come away with a comprehensive lip augmentation treatment plan that’s right for you, designed to meet your needs and create the look that you desire.

What should I expect with Sculptra biostimulator injections?

The results of Sculptra injections become visible gradually, usually within a few weeks. To reach your desired shape and volume we recommend our Sculptra patients to do several treatments with intervals of at least 3 to 4 weeks between each treatment. With little to no downtime other than some minor soreness, using Sculptra to treat volume loss is a great long-term alternative to hyaluronic acid fillers and for those who prefer not to undergo surgery. Book a consultation with one of our expert Sculptra injectors to create a treatment plan fit for you.

What should I expect with dermal filler injections?

One of the reasons why dermal fillers are so popular is that the results are noticeable immediately after your injections, so you can start enjoying youthful lips or rejuvenated skin right away. Some patients may experience mild bruising or swelling, which goes away after a few days and can be easily managed with an ice pack.T

reatments are quick and you can go back to work or resume your usual activities right after your appointment. Dermal filler patients can enjoy their results for 6 months up to 2 years, depending on the area and type of dermal fillers used. Lip filler usually lasts 6 months, meaning that you’ll only need touch-ups once or twice a year to maintain your desired look. Some dermal fillers, such as for the jawline, are formulated to mimic bone, so these can last anywhere up to 2 years. Ask your treatment provider during your consultation or procedure about the specific dermal filler product you are receiving and how long it will last.

How do dermal fillers work?

Unlike wrinkle relaxing injections—which relax the muscles that cause wrinkles to form—dermal fillers are injected to add or restore volume, plump the face, and create definition and contour. 8 West Clinic uses only the highest quality injectables for your facial rejuvenation treatments.

The majority of the dermal fillers we use are based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body. This is a type of sugar in the body that binds water molecules together, resulting in plump, voluminous skin and features. As we age, hyaluronic acid, collagen, elastin, and the overall tissues that make up the face begin to slowly break down, which is how our skin lift diminishes.

We also carry well-known brands that are based on poly-L-lactic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, which work to plump the skin by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production process over time.

Some dermal filler products contain larger particles which are used to soften deep creases, while smaller particles are effective for eliminating fine wrinkles. Our skilled injectors are artists who expertly use specific densities of filler, and sometimes combine them, to create the results you want. With a bespoke dermal filler plan, treatments will immediately or in the long-term help the face look more naturally plump, hydrated, and restored in lost volume. We are extremely selective with our dermal filler brands, using only those that meet the highest standards set by the FDA and Health Canada.

What are the most common areas to treat with dermal filler injections?

LIPS

Some of us treat our lips because they’ve always been small or thin to begin with, or we want to improve their shape, or make them more symmetrical. Others begin lip filler injections when they start seeing volume loss around the mouth and lips due to the aging process.

JAWLINE

Often used to enhance and create a sharper jawline, these can be strategically placed in various areas to form definition. They can be used to either feminize or masculinize a face to your desired results.

LOWER EYE HOLLOWS/TEAR TROUGHS

Patients with sunken, tired or hollow-looking lower eyelids may think this is a skin issue – but it’s actually hollowness under the eye. Dermal fillers can be an excellent option to brighten the eye, and provide you with a more refreshed look. Filler can also help disguise lower eyelid bags in some patients.

CHEEKS

It’s common for the cheeks to lose volume as we age, making them a great anti-aging treatment option. Other people choose dermal fillers to create the look of more prominent cheekbones that create a lifted, contoured appearance.

CHIN

Optimizing the chin helps balance out the lower portion of the face. It’s common to get the chin treated in tandem with the jawline or cheeks to give the appearance of a heart-shaped face. Chin filler can also be used to diminish or hide the appearance of a double chin, or sagging jowl.

TEMPLES

Very active people, or those with genetically lower levels of body fat will often develop hollow temples which can be corrected with dermal fillers.

NOSE

Injecting dermal filler in the nose is also called a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors target the nose with dermal filler to augment and contour and balance the nose, or disguise divots or bumps.

OTHER AREAS

While there are more common places that people treat with dermal filler, if there is a specific area of your face (or body) you wish to enhance, discuss this during a consultation. It may surprise you just what magic can be done using dermal fillers, as well as our other range of aesthetic treatments.

How are dermal filler injections performed?

At 8 West Clinic, you’re in the best possible hands with our cosmetic injectors and our continually updated array of preferred Health Canada- and FDA-approved dermal fillers—call and ask us which brands of dermal filler we use.

Our experienced injectors carefully administer filler injections in the precise areas you wish to target and add volume to, for proportionally enhanced features and smoothed skin. This is a non-surgical treatment that doesn’t require any anesthesia, but topical numbing is available if you would prefer. Many of the FDA-approved products in Canada contain lidocaine, to subtly numb your injection areas during your treatment. For patients who are allergic to lidocaine, have this conversation with our friendly staff and treatment providers so we can accommodate your needs.

Who is a candidate for dermal fillers?

Generally speaking, there are two categories of people who will benefit from dermal fillers: patients who are noticing changes in the face due to aging and volume loss, and patients wanting to enhance features, like defining their jawline and cheekbones or adding lip volume. Of course, these categories also have a lot of crossover, or patients could be those looking to supplement other treatments such as wrinkle relaxing injections, laser skin resurfacing, or even surgery.

Most people find that they are great candidates for dermal filler, but what and where it is required can vary depending on a number of factors. The best person to ask is, of course, an expert! We offer complimentary consultations with our expert injectors, where you can discuss your desired results, treatment options, and costs.

You can book your consultation as a stand-alone, or request additional time with your appointment for optional, same-day treatment. Just discuss this with our friendly and knowledgeable staff when booking your consultation via the phone.

What should I expect with wrinkle relaxing injections?

Most patients begin to see diminished lines and wrinkles within a few days of their neuromodulator treatment, and you’ll see the full results within 14 days.

Each injection treatment takes only a few minutes to complete, and you can return to work or your other normal activities right away. It’s also safe to gently put makeup on within a few minutes of your treatment if you want to cover any redness. Any small red areas will only be visible immediately after the treatment and will reduce in a short period of time post-treatment.

We suggest that people do not perform any strenuous exercise post-treatment, but light cardio is fine. We also ask that people do not lie down for 6 hours post-treatment, as this increases the risk of the product migrating to other muscles/areas.

Wrinkle relaxing injections create smoother skin that lasts for 3 to 4 months for most people before another visit is required.

How do wrinkle relaxing injections work?

Wrinkle relaxing injections, or neuromodulators, are a botulinum toxin, meaning that they work to relax the muscles which they are injected into. Lines and wrinkles are formed from the natural expressions, and are categorized into two different types; dynamic and static.

  • Dynamic Wrinkles are those caused by making certain expressions; the lines by our mouth when laughing and smiling, the creases on your forehead when you frown or are focusing. These lines come and go with your expressions, but after a while can leave more permanent marks on your face.
  • Static Wrinkles are etched more permanently in our skin, and will remain during a neutral facial expression.

When used in small doses, neuromodulators subtly relax the muscles that form lines and wrinkles. This can be used preventatively to slow down the appearance of static lines, and also as treatment for diminishing dynamic lines and softening some static lines—depending on your skin, facial muscles, and severity of the wrinkles. For some patients, it may be beneficial to combine wrinkle relaxing injections with energy-based treatments such as laser skin resurfacing for the most optimal results.

How are wrinkle relaxing injections performed?

Neuromodulator injections are performed with your cosmetic injector treating targeted areas by administering several micro-droplet injections through a tiny needle directly into the muscles that cause expression lines to form. Your injector will likely have you make certain facial expressions before or throughout the treatment to guide the placement of neuromodulator product.

Knowing precisely how much and where to inject is what makes the difference in achieving results that look and feel natural. Our expert injectors are highly skilled at placing the perfect amounts of neuromodulator product in the perfect areas for optimal results that you’ll love.

The treatment is typically done within minutes, with no topical numbing required.

Who is a candidate for wrinkle relaxing injections?

Patients wanting neuromodulator injections are often looking to smooth out wrinkles or stop them from forming in the first place. You could argue that everyone is a candidate for neuromodulator injections, not just those with wrinkles as it can also be used as a preventative treatment. Neuromodulator injections can also be utilized for conditions such as tension headaches and overactive sweating. If you’re wondering if wrinkle relaxing injections are for you, ask yourself if you want to prevent or diminish any of these signs of aging:

  • Forehead lines
  • Lines between the brows
  • Tired eyes (non-surgical brow lift)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Downturned lips
  • Chin dimpling
  • Strong masseter muscle (facial slimming or bruxism/grinding teeth)
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating underarms, palms, soles of feet)

During a complimentary consultation at 8 West Clinic, we’ll discuss your individual needs and your facial aesthetic goals. You’ll come away with a comprehensive treatment plan that’s designed just for you.

How long does it take to recover from labiaplasty?

When it comes to healing, post-operative labiaplasty pain is minimal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication or a prescription. You will experience significant swelling and some bruising after your surgery. Most of the swelling will go down after 2 weeks but it typically takes about 6 weeks for all of the swelling to subside.

Those who are diligent about following Dr. Buonassisi’s post-operative care instructions may be able to resume some non-strenuous activities 3 to 4 days after surgery, and you’ll be back to your regular exercise and activity after about 4 weeks.

Once fully recovered, labiaplasty will not interfere with normal vaginal sensations, the ability to have intercourse, or the ability to have orgasms.

How is labiaplasty performed?

For some, the inner labia are longer than the outer labia, and labiaplasty surgery involves trimming the excess labia minora tissue that protrudes past the labia majora. Dr. Buonassisi will carefully measure the labia before marking them, to then (while you are under anesthesia) carefully trim excess tissue away, and closing the incisions with sutures. The full details of how this surgery is performed will be best discussed with your patient care manager during your complimentary pre-consultation and in your surgical consultation with the doctor.

Who is a candidate for labiaplasty?

There are many reasons why one may consider labiaplasty, as each person and their labia is unique. For some, it’s due to the physical discomfort that may come with an enlarged labia or excess tissue that may extend outside of the labia majora. While for others, it may be for aesthetic-related reasons. People who choose labiaplasty surgery may take issue with some or all of these areas:

  • Physical vaginal discomfort when exercising
  • Difficulty with maintaining vaginal hygiene leading to frequent urinary tract infections
  • Discomfort from pinching or pulling sensations during sexual activities
  • Feeling uncomfortable in swimsuits or in tight fitting clothing, like yoga pants
  • Dissatisfaction with the physical appearance of excess labia skin
  • Feeling that their labia doesn’t look the way they’d like or feel

Labiaplasty appeals to people of any age, and if you can relate to these feelings of discomfort or self-consciousness, this surgery may be the right procedure for you.

What are the types of brow lift surgery techniques?

A brow lift repositions brows to a natural, attractive-looking position, smoothes forehead wrinkles, and shapes the brow arch. Dr. Buonassisi is highly skilled in performing several types of brow lifts:

TEMPORAL BROW LIFT

Best for those whose medial (mid) brow is in a good position and the lateral (outer third) brow is flat or downward-sloping. The procedure places incisions in the hairline above the lateral brow, and then lifts these corners of the brow.

DIRECT INCISION BROW LIFT

Typically for patients who have excess or sagging skin, causing a heavy brow. Incisions are placed in the natural wrinkles or creases directly above the brow to remove excess skin and lift the brow.

ENDOSCOPIC BROW LIFT

For patients looking for a longer-lasting, natural-looking and more global result; the endoscopic brow lift provides a more holistic lift of a much larger area, rejuvenating the eyes, brow pad, forehead, and even lifting some of the upper cheek.

The endoscopic brow fift is made possible with the surgical elevation of the multiple structures under the skin, creating a more natural-looking rejuvenated result that will slow the signs of aging in the upper face for years to come. Though a surgical procedure, the endoscopic brow lift is considered a minimally invasive and scarless approach to the surgical brow lift and yields minimal downtime with a quick recovery.

NON-SURGICAL BROW LIFT

The brows can also be slightly elevated with non-surgical brow lift treatments. It can be a great option for patients who want to achieve a subtle lift without undergoing surgery.

A neuromodulator injectable brow lift essentially relaxes the muscles that are pulling the brow down and allow it to rest in a slightly higher position. Dermal Fillers are a temporary, non-invasive procedure that can be used to augment the temple area to give a boost to the lateral brow.

Contact us for more information about non-surgical brow lift treatments.

How long does it take to recover from brow lift surgery?

Most patients take at least 1 week off of work to recover from their brow lift. Stitches are removed approximately 1 week after surgery. You’ll need to take 3 to 4 weeks off from vigorous exercise and activities to allow for proper healing and to minimize swelling. You’ll see a significant change right after surgery, but it takes a couple of weeks for the brows to settle into their natural position. How long does a brow lift last? A brow lift can last for years, even up to a decade, but over time, the face and skin will still continue to age as normal.

How is brow lift surgery performed?

Brow lift surgery takes an average of 1-2 hours. Most brow lift surgeries are performed by carefully and strategically removing sections of the skin anywhere between the upper brow area and into the hairline above the forehead, depending on the amount of lift required. Dr. Buonassisi will then strategically place stitches to achieve the lifting action of the surgery, ensuring the placement of these is in natural creases in the forehead or within the hair of the upper brow or the hairline to ensure any scarring is tactfully hidden.

For the endoscopic brow lift approach, Dr. Buonassisi makes a small incision—approximately 2 cm long—in the scalp, behind the hairline. He uses an endoscope (a surgical camera) and special tools to access the brow structures beneath the skin, allowing him to mobilize the various structural layers in the forehead to create a deeper lift across a larger area that isn’t just a skin lift. The mobilized layers are strategically repositioned to create the ideal elevation of the brow, and are then secured with sutures higher up in the scalp with no trimming of skin required. The incision is closed with very fine stitches.

Am I a candidate for brow lift surgery?

Patients who may be excellent candidates for brow lift surgery will most likely have these concerns as they age or as a result of hereditary factors:

  • Heavy brows
  • Sagging skin and brows that will benefit from removing excess skin
  • Tired, aging eyes
  • Hooded or sagging eyelids
  • A genetically predisposed low-set brow

How long does it take to recover from blepharoplasty surgery?

We suggest that patients take about a week off of work, and about 2 weeks off from strenuous activities and exercise. Most patients are comfortable being back in the public eye after a couple of weeks, but full recovery takes several months. There are no visible scars from the incisions. You can expect to enjoy your results for at least 10 to 15 years, but as you age, your skin will begin to naturally droop over time.

How is blepharoplasty performed?

Blepharoplasty (depending on the specific technique) typically takes around 1 hour and is performed under local anesthesia. Blepharoplasty requires removing excess skin and fat to help rejuvenate your appearance, and bring focus back to your beautiful eyes. Dr. Buonassisi will begin the surgery by carefully measuring the skin that needs to be removed. Then, precise incisions are made to remove the skin in such a way that the stitching is hidden within natural creases of the skin. Once the sufficient amount of skin, fat, and/or muscle have been removed and the desired result has been achieved, the stitches are placed to complete the surgery.

As each patient is different, and there are a number of different blepharoplasty techniques to address every concern, a more comprehensive discussion about the surgery will be discussed in your pre-consultation with a patient care manager, followed by your consultation with Dr. Buonassisi.

Who is a candidate for blepharoplasty?

Patients who are excellent candidates for these procedures have these concerns as they age or as a result of hereditary factors:

  • Droopy or hooded eyelids
  • Sagging eyelid skin
  • Tired, puffy eyes and under-eye bags
  • People who do not have a natural eyelid crease

To determine if you are a candidate for blepharoplasty, our patient care managers are available to help discuss the surgery in more detail and conduct a photo review.

How long does it take to recover from FaceTite and AccuTite?

The first few days after the procedure, patients can expect to have some bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness in the treatment area. It is advised to sleep on several pillows to keep your head elevated for at least 2-3 days to help minimize swelling. Any soreness is easily managed by simply taking Tylenol. It typically takes approximately 7-10 days to see the swelling and bruising subside. It is best to minimize talking and chewing and we recommend following a soft diet for the first 48 hours following your procedure.

You must limit physical activity and exposure to excessive heat (sauna, hot tub, hot yoga, fire pits, UV light) for 2 weeks, and avoid alcohol for the first few days.

While some results will be visible shortly after your treatment, the final results will develop over a longer period of time, often 6-9 months, as the body produces more collagen and tightens the skin in the treated area(s). You will be given a compression facial wrap to wear home immediately following your procedure, and will be instructed to wear this around the clock for a few days, and then you can reduce it to 12 hours a day for the next 2 weeks.

What should I expect with FaceTite and AccuTite?

Your treatment may take up to an hour. The length of your procedure will depend on the size of the treatment area(s). It is performed under local anaesthetic, such as lidocaine, to numb the area. This helps to ensure that you are pain-free and experience minimal or no discomfort during your procedure.

The FaceTite or AccuTite probe is then inserted through tiny incisions (puncture holes) made in the treatment area, generally below the ear and under the chin for FaceTite. Through this probe, RF heat is sent directly to the subdermal tissue. A surface probe is used externally to ensure the most effective delivery of RF heat to the targeted tissue. Once the area has been thoroughly treated with RF heat, the procedure is over. There is no need for stitches, as the necessary incisions are quite tiny. You will be quite swollen and may experience some bruising immediately following the treatment. You will also be required to wear a compression garment following your treatment as per your surgeon's instructions.

How do FaceTite and AccuTite work?

FaceTite and AccuTite are minimally invasive cosmetic procedures designed to tighten and contour the skin through radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis. The procedure begins with the application of local anesthesia to ensure patient comfort. Following this, a very small, carefully placed incision is made to allow for the insertion of the device beneath the skin. The device features a slender, internally cooled cannula that emits radiofrequency energy to precisely target and liquefy excess fat for removal while simultaneously stimulating collagen production. The controlled application of energy ensures that surrounding tissues experience tightening, resulting in a more sculpted and lifted appearance. The procedure is performed by a surgeon and is conducted with real-time monitoring to maintain optimal temperature levels and ensure safety. The cutting-edge technology behind FaceTite and AccuTite allows for a customized and controlled approach to facial rejuvenation, with the added benefits of minimal downtime and natural-looking outcomes.

Radiofrequency-Assisted Lipolysis:

The fat reduction and skin tightening results behind FaceTite and AccuTite are achieved through a process known as radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis. During the procedure, a specialized device is inserted beneath the skin through a small incision. This device emits controlled radiofrequency energy, which has dual benefits. First, it targets and heats excess fat deposits, with this controlled heating causing the fat cells to liquefy. The liquefied fat is then carefully suctioned out as well as naturally eliminated by the body’s metabolic processes, addressing concerns like sagging and contours.

Second, and equally important, the energy stimulates the production of collagen, a key protein responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. As collagen levels increase, the skin tightens naturally over time. The procedure’s precision ensures that the tightening effect is focused on the treated areas, resulting in a more sculpted and youthful appearance without the need for more invasive surgical methods.

Who is a candidate for FaceTite or AccuTite?

If you are bothered by the appearance of jowls, loose skin, or heaviness in neck area or areas of the mid face and are seeking a minimally invasive option for facial rejuvenation and skin tightening, then it is very likely you may be a candidate. FaceTite is particularly suitable for those experiencing excess fat under the chin, mild to moderate sagging or laxity in the lower face and neck areas. Meanwhile, AccuTite is suitable for those looking to sculpt smaller pockets of excess fat in the face, such as under the eyes or around the nasolabial folds. Overall, FaceTite and AccuTite are versatile options for those who wish to address concerns around facial contours and skin laxity without undergoing a traditional facelift or neck lift surgery.

They are also especially appealing for their minimal level of downtime compared to traditional surgical interventions. A surgical facelift or neck lift can provide the most comprehensive and long-lasting improvements to the facial profile, but not every patient is a good candidate for cosmetic surgery. Consulting with a qualified and experienced surgeon is essential to determine if FaceTite or AccuTite are the most appropriate solution for your individual aesthetic goals and concerns.

Who is a candidate for lip lift surgery?

While lip lifts are becoming increasingly popular, there are very specific factors that determine your candidacy. This is because the lip lift procedure targets only the upper lip, and works by reducing the space between upper lip and the base of the nose (the philtrum).

If any of the following applies to you and your desired results, lip lift surgery may be perfect for you:

  • You’ve always had an elongated distance between the base of the nostrils and the top lip border and want to shorten it
  • Your natural lip line has lowered as a result of aging and your lips appear smaller than they once did
  • You want to expose more of your upper teeth to form a larger and more striking smile
  • You want youthful lips that are in balance with the proportions of your facial features

For those who are not a candidate for lip lift surgery but are still wanting similar results, you may wish to consider Dermal Fillers.

How long does it take to recover from lip lift surgery?

Lip lift surgery is a highly customizable procedure, and Dr. Buonassisi crafts your surgery based off of your unique facial composition, and with your individual aesthetic goals in mind. Once your procedure is complete, most patients wish to take about 1 week off from work or other social activities to allow any redness and swelling to subside. Swelling and the discreet scar will heal in approximately 2-3 months.

Any redness and scarring can easily be covered with makeup, and we also have a number of scar management options available, such as ProFractional Laser—just ask your patient care manager or Dr. Buonassisi about these during your discussions.

Due to swelling after your surgery, your upper lip may appear fuller and will settle after a couple of months. Because the results of a lip lift are permanent, you’ll come away with long-lasting, natural, and refreshed results the same day.

How is lip lift surgery performed?

The most common procedure is called the Bullhorn Lip Lift, where Dr. Buonassisi removes the skin just below and to the sides of the nostrils and raises the upper lip to the desired position.

Your lip lift procedure takes about 1 hour, and is performed under local anaesthetic, such as lidocaine, to numb the area. This helps to ensure that you are pain-free and experience minimal or no discomfort during your surgery.

Dr. Buonassisi will begin by drawing an outline below your nostrils (resembling a bullhorn shape) to show where he will place the incisions. Dr. Buonassisi will then proceed by removing a tiny strip of skin and tissue, tightening the muscle, and lifting the lip to the desired new position, anchoring the skin to the base of the nose.

He will then complete the surgery by placing dissolvable stitches where the incisions were. These are placed in a strategic way so that any scarring will be disguised in the natural folds and creases of your nose and upper lip.

How long does it take to recover from otoplasty?

Recovery from otoplasty requires you to wear a dressing around the ears for the first two weeks post-surgery. It is normal to experience some bruising, discolouration and swelling around the ears. You can resume most normal activities, such as household chores, a brisk walk, or light exercise within a few days after the procedure. You can resume more vigorous, weight-based exercises once the dressing has been removed.

Your patient care manager will have detailed post-operative instructions and will be there to assist you every step of the way. Don't hesitate to reach out to them with any questions you have about the healing process.

How is Otoplasty Performed?

Otoplasty takes around 2 hours to perform, and is typically done under local anesthetic. The technique used will vary depending on what is causing the ear to protrude.

Dr. Buonassisi meticulously creates an incision behind the ear, and excess cartilage and skin may be removed. The cartilage is then folded into the proper position, and secured with stitches. Because of their placements, the incisions are virtually imperceptible, for a natural result.

Who is a candidate for otoplasty?

Most people who feel that they have protruding ears are optimal candidates for otoplasty. Your candidacy for this procedure will be discussed during your complimentary pre-consultation, where a photo review will be conducted, and Dr. Buonassisi will determine whether he can achieve your desired results with surgery.

How chin implant surgery is performed

There are several implant types and insertion methods that can be used to achieve chin augmentation. Dr. Buonassisi carefully evaluates the facial profile and through discussion will recommend the size and shape of implant that would best suit the individual. Most commonly a small incision is strategically placed under the chin, so that any scarring is well-hidden. The soft tissues of the chin are then elevated away from the bone, and a small pocket is created under the periosteum (thick layer that envelops the bone) where the implant is inserted. The implant is then secured in the midline by dissolvable stitches.
