The skin around the eyes is very delicate, often exposed to sun, and one of the first parts of the face to shows signs of aging. Aging eyelid skin can cause people to look older than their true age or less energetic than they actually are. Blepharoplasty is the medical term for lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Brow lifts may be appropriate if the brows are naturally low or have drooped over time.
Vancouver based Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Thomas Buonassisi has twenty years experience performing cosmetic eyelid and brow procedures, and specializes in both minimally invasive and more extensive lifts. Blepharoplasty surgery can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to create a more youthful and rested appearance, while brow lift surgery can be performed at varying extents for different kinds of lifts.
A great example of a minimally invasive blepharoplasty for upper eyelids is Dr. Buonassisi’s sliver blepharoplasty, which has less down time than a traditional blepharoplasty. More traditional eyelid lifts are appropriate in some patients.
During your consultation, Dr. Buonassisi will help determine the best approach for you.
The approach for lower eyelid blepharoplasty depends on the patient’s specific features and degree of skin laxity – external lower blepharoplasty is performed through a fine incision just below the lash line, while the internal lower blepharoplasty, a minimally invasive option for lower lids in some patients, is performed through an incision inside the lower lid. This approach is often called scarless blepharoplasty as the incision is hidden inside the lower lid.
Brow lift surgery repositions brows to a natural, attractive looking position. It is important to be properly addressed to determine if the concerns you have with your eyelids and eye area are related to the eyelids themselves, or the position of your brows. In many cases the traditional coronal approach (which involves a large hairline incision and has a long recovery period) can be forfeited for a less invasive approach. The direct brow lift approach is performed through tiny incisions hidden in natural creases in the upper forehead. The minimal incision brow lift approach is performed through tiny incisions located in the hairline. The endoscopic brow lift approach is performed through a tiny incision in the scalp that heals hidden within the hair.
