Every nose is different, and where you are from influences your nose skin thickness, cartilage stiffness and shape of the bony bridge and tip.
Vancouver is home for people with ethnic roots ranging from all over Asia, to India, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. It is a truly global city. Every person has their own unique beauty, so it makes sense that a rhinoplasty procedure should enhance natural ethnic features, not give the nose a shape that looks unnatural or does not fit the overall balance of the face. When he performs rhinoplasty for British Columbia patients, Dr. Buonassisi is sensitive to the cultural and aesthetic concerns that are important to his patients. A beautiful nose, for faces of any ethnic background, will compliment the shape of the face overall, highlight the eyes, and balance out the curves of brows and cheeks. When it comes to rhinoplasty, patients need a facial plastic surgeon who has superior training to perform procedures that will create a nose that makes sense for their look as a whole.
A caring surgeon with a realistic view of his patients’ goals, Dr. Buonassisi has the skill to achieve cosmetic excellence. To learn more about how Dr. Buonassisi tailors rhinoplasty for the ethnic face, request a consultation with facial plastic surgeon Dr. Buonassisi. His facial cosmetic surgery practice is located in a private location bordering the South Granville and Kitsilano areas of Vancouver, on 8th-West Avenue.
Asian noses typically have a higher amount of soft tissue, creating a rounder and often broader appearance. The nasal bridge may be less prominent which can contribute to the sometimes flattened appearance. While Asian features can differ widely, many of Dr. Buonassisi’s Asian rhinoplasty patients in Vancouver would like to achieve a more defined look to the bridge of the nose and add projection to the tip. While fine adjustments to the nostrils are sometimes helpful, in general adding a small facial implant to the bridge area or the tip of the nose will slightly lengthen and slim its shape in the way the majority of patients want. As a facial plastic surgeon in Vancouver, Dr. Buonassisi has found that very precise adjustments to one or two areas of the nose can often yield results that are much more balanced, naturally and aesthetically.

One of the key features of the Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern nose is the prominence of the nasal bridge. Reduction of a bony “hump” on the bridge of the nose is the most commonly requested cosmetic nasal procedure. What many patients don’t realize, however, is that often a drooping tip further accentuates the appearance of the hump and can make the nose look excessively long. In his Vancouver and British Columbia rhinoplasty consultations, Dr. Buonassisi thoroughly examines all his patients to determine the contributions from a prominent hump and a drooping tip to the overall aesthetics of the nose. With computer imaging he can make changes to these features so that patients can envision the reshaping and rebalancing of the nose before they proceed with surgery.
A down turning nasal tip often distinguishes the Indian nose. This is due typically to soft very flexible nasal tip cartilages, which can often droop even further with smiling. When the tip droops it gives the appearance of an overly long nose. This can accentuate an existing nasal “hump” or even create the appearance of a hump when smiling. Dr. Buonassisi takes special care with his Indian patients to explain how the tip must be supported to maintain good nasal function and refine the overall shape of the nose. Vancouver rhinoplasty to reshape the Indian nose can often make a dramatic change to the patient’s overall appearance. As a result, it is very important for Dr. Buonassisi to perform computer imaging to allow his patients to see the overall effect on the facial features prior to deciding on surgery. Patients request changes to their nose for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, these changes all come down to addressing proportion, balance and symmetry. Some of the common concerns that people have with their nose include:
