Implant and Incision Placement
Many Choices Effect How Your New Breasts Will Look and Feel
Plastic Surgeon Dr. Watts will help you choose an implant filler, implant and incision placement, size and profile. Today, women have more choice than ever when it comes to breast implants.
Vancouver breast implants are a popular cosmetic surgery procedure for women ages 18 and up. There are several important things for you to consider before you make your decision about breast augmentation. Two important things to consider are the placement of the incision and the placement of the implant itself.
Implant Placement
Your unique size and shape determines what breast implant placement is ideal for you. Plastic Surgeon Dr. Watts will measure your chest wall, the width of your breast, and the amount of breast tissue you have in order to assess implant placement options. Implants can be placed two ways: submuscular (under the pectoralis major muscle) and subglandular (under the breast gland).
Implant Incisions
There are three common places for incisions: Pariareolar, Infra-mammary and Trans-axillary. Each incision option comes with its own unique set of risks and benefits, which you will discuss with Dr. Watts in your surgical consultation.
Pariareolar
Periareolar incisions are made around the edge of the nipple where it meets the surrounding breast tissue. The resulting scars, which blend well with the nipple skin color, typically heal well and can become virtually invisible.
Inframammary
Inframmany incisions are placed below the breast fold. These incisions can be more noticeable than other types, but may be associated with a lesser risk of losing breast-feeding ability.
Transaxillary
Transaxillary incisions are placed in a natural crease in the underarm. While this incision is less visible and creates a lesser risk for losing breast-feeding ability, it is best suited for saline implants. Because saline implants are filled after they are placed, they can be placed inside the small transaxillary incisions. Saline implants, which are pre-filled, can be difficult to fit into a transaxillary incision. Choosing your implant filler is an important decision and Dr. Watts will discuss your saline or silicone options with you during your consult.
