About the Procedure

The earlobes go through the natural aging process just like other parts of the body. It is not uncommon for earlobes to become elongated over time as a result in a reduction of collagen in the skin. Women who have a history of wearing heavy earrings are particularly at risk as the weight of the earrings pull on the earlobes, accentuating the elongation of the lobe and the earring hole.

How the Procedure is Performed

Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Buonassisi decreases the length of the aging earlobe by reducing a portion of the lax earlobe and reattaching it in a tighter, more youthful position. The incisions are hidden in the crease that joins the earlobe to the cheek, to allow for a natural contour and imperceptible scar. This is an in office procedure done under local anesthetic, or can be combined with facial rejuvenation surgery.

Recovery

Most patients describe the recovery period from earlobe rejuvenation to be quite easy. There is minimal to no discomfort. You may have sutures in yours ears which will be removed one week following surgery.

Time Off Work

  • The sutures can be covered with sterile tape during the first week following the procedure
  • There is no need to take time off work, however some people choose to if they want to hide the sutures in their ears

Back to Normal Activities

  • You can resume all activities as normal the day after surgery
  • You must be careful not to catch your earlobes on anything while the sutures are in place

Restaurant Ready

You will typically feel “restaurant ready”, meaning that you would feel comfortable meeting up with friends – the day after surgery. It is up to you if you would like to cover the sutures with tape or not.
