IS WINTER THE BEST TIME FOR FACELIFT RECOVERY?
Are you interested in having a facelift, but a little confused about when you should book your procedure? We’ve discussed this topic with our team of specialists at 8 West Cosmetic Surgery, including Dr. Thomas Buonassisi, and here’s why winter may be the best time for your facelift recovery.
The busy festive season may seem like an inconvenient time for facelift recovery – until you consider the fact that many businesses shut down for a week or so in late December/early January. In other words, holiday time away from work may make a useful (and paid!) contribution toward your total recovery period, requiring you to take fewer precious vacation days off.
In addition, the extra week of vacation that materializes for most people around the holidays may make it easier for a partner, family member or friend to be there to help you during the first few days or week of your recovery.
Tissue inflammation can, at times, be exacerbated by warmer conditions, meaning the cool (or downright cold) weather that comes with winter may actually be more beneficial for healing after a facelift. It’s also highly recommended that you avoid direct, harsh sun exposure during your facelift recovery, making an overcast winter forecast better suited to healing, with the least scarring and swelling.
Another recommendation for a quick facelift recovery: very minimal to no physical activity, particularly in the first week after surgery. If you’re like most people and tend to “hibernate” once winter hits, you could be far less tempted to go outdoors and be active. Unless you are heavily interested in cold-weather sports, the winter season provides a haven for resting and recovery after a facelift.
Another unexpected perk of scheduling your facelift during winter? The layers of clothing that are so useful against the cold, including hats and scarves, will help camouflage your recovery bandages, allowing you to make small trips to the grocery store or bank without feeling conspicuous or uncomfortable.
So there you have it: several valid and encouraging reasons why you should consider having your facelift procedure this winter or next. Want to learn more about facelift recovery? Read about The Four Stages of Recovery from Facelift Surgery.
